We've always found this Motel 6 to be reliable. It covers the basics. Our room was clean and staff were wearing masks. Coffee is available in the lobby from 6 to 10 am. The only negative was a strong smoke smell in the hallway where the non-smoking rooms are located. No cigarette smell in our room, though. The n/s rooms are easily accessible via the lobby without having to climb stairs. Bring your own shampoo.

If you're going to book a motel in this range you shouldn't expect too much. I think they hit the key points. It's clean and the hard surface floors are great in a pet friendly place. The shower was large and good pressure. AC worked well. There was some noise but not that much. It's on a hill so there are stairs up to the back side but level if you go in through the lobby. I'd stay again.

It's not the Ritz Carlton. However the room was clean and comfortable. Larger outdoor pool . Pet friendly. Lots of parking. Close to many restaurants and Interstate 80. Easy on your wallet. Numerous gas stations close by.

We booked this hotel for a 1 night stay, hotels.com advertisers the hotel as a non smoking hotel but when i got there all that was avaiable was a smoking room.and was guaranteed that the room wouldnt smell of smoke. I went in the room and the smell of old smoke was so nasty. There was cigarette holes in the sheet the bed is just a box spring, the shelf was broken there was a hole in the toilet door so no privacy. The fan in the bathroom was so noisy. It was the worste room i ever seen so i went and complaoned and all he said was you can call corporate and no other rooms was avaiable so we checked out and went to another hotel.

I have a couple of friends that tipped me off to the following trick for going to Tahoe on a weekend: they leave the Bay Area at 8 or 9 PM to avoid traffic, drive two hours, and stay at the Motel 6 in Auburn.
For $50/night, they share a simple, spotless, comfortable room, get a good night's sleep, breakfast at Denny's nearby, and still hit the slopes by 9AM. So, I decided to try it. Works like a charm! And, I never stay at Motel 6's but I have to say this one seems brand new and very clean - a cut above the others. Keep in mind I'm not rating against the Ritz- I'm rating against what I would expect for a chain motel room that price.

My initial reaction to this motel was actually favorable. I can look past remodeling and the attendant noise and damage. What really threw me off about this place was the fact that our sheets were soiled and strewn with foreign hair.

We slept on top of the bed the first night and left early the next morning on a day trip. When we returned, the bed was made. I said to my wife, "How much do you want to bet that hair is still there?" I turned back the blanket and...yup, you guessed it. Same hair, same stains. The maid had done nothing but tucked in the filthy linens.

Disgusting.

My wife and I returned from breakfast on Friday, December 23, and found that our key card would not open our door. After about 45 minutes of back and forth with the clerk, a maintenance man successfully opened our door.

But this was the last straw for us.

The room had a motion-detection light thing so that, if you sat for 10 minutes reading a book, the light went out and you had to reset it.

We'd made a reservation for two adults, and yet there were no bath towels.

And so on.

So, we decided to cancel the second night and go somewhere else. THE CLERK REFUSED TO GIVE US A BILL SHOWING THAT WE WERE CHARGED FOR ONE NIGHT. When I asked to talk to her boss, she said that he was in India. When I asked her to give me whatever bill she could give me, she said that they didn't give bills for rooms that were reserved over the Net.

Please don't go there. Spend the extra $10-$20 and go to the Comfort Inn next door.

In all sincerity,

Kim, Los Angeles

I have stayed at many, many a Motel 6 and Auburn is the best location, hands down! I have stayed here so many times that I lost count and it meets my expectations every time. What makes this one so good is the entrance to all rooms are from the inside of the building, like at a real hotel. This makes a HUGE difference! There is no car noise or loud people right outside your door like a normal Motel 6 and it feels much safer for the family. Also, right across the street is a Starbucks, hooray!

We stayed for just one night, but the room was obviously not designed for multi night stays.

Everything was very clean and staff was quite friendly and helpful. However the room had no real place to store more than a single days worth of clothes (see photo). It was a couple short posts and small shelves. No dresser or cabinet of any kind.

The other issue was that there was no place to hang wet bath towels and mat. They are just rolled tight and stuffed in hopes in a strange little wall cabinet (see photo). You cannot hang towels to dry and reuse them and thus conserve wash water like other lodgings offer.

The queen bed was adequate. Otherwise it as a clean fairly well maintained facility.

Stayed here for a night with my boyfriend while we were passing through the area. The clerk at the front desk was very friendly and helpful in answering any questions for us. We stayed in room 123 which was on the first floor. Hallway had a strong odor, not a terrible smell but it was certainly distracting. The room had a nice design and we both really liked the new styling motel 6 has done for many of their motels. The bed was comfortable enough but there were only 2 flat pillows; the tv was a good size and had a lot of channels and overall we didn't feel cramped. One of the problems with the room was that the bathroom had a pocket door. Now, a pocket door can be quite charming and a space saver but our door happened to be broken. We had to wrestle with the door to try and close it but once we had pulled it as far as it could go there was still a huge gap between the bottom of the door and the frame...so, not good if you like privacy while going about your business. Also, no shampoo/conditioner provided (just fyi) and the towels were very thin and scratchy. The problem, and the biggest problem for me though, was the amount of noise. There was a gap when the door was closed on the sides and bottom...I could stand there and look out into the hall through the gap which made me feel a bit uncomfortable. We were also right by the entrance to the hallway so every time someone came barreling down the hall it felt more like they were walking into our room. I was awoken again and again throughout the night. At 4 am I was awoken because someone was standing in the hall blasting country music...after growing irritated wondering why on earth someone would find it appropriate to be playing music so late/early I started making my way out of bed and to the hall to tell them to shut up when luckily (for them) they stopped before I reached them. I could also hear people walking around upstairs ALL NIGHT. It drove me nuts. We paid $70 for the night and I honestly do not at feel the stay was worth that much money, I think a more appropriate price would have been $30.
