Catalina Island’s Glenmore Plaza Hotel is Catalina Island’s most established hotel. We are located on the beach in the heart of Avalon. While the hotel still retains its Victorian Charm, all of our suites and many of our rooms were recently renovated to provide our guest with the most modern comforts available.
This is a very charming hotel located close to “Front Street” as I have learned the locals call it. All of The staff was phenomenal and very helpful. Made a spur of the moment decision to go to Catalina Island on Friday morning and found this gem of a property on Expedia so I booked it. When I arrived I was greeted by a very friendly gentleman (unfortunately I do not remember any names 🙄). He went to make sure my room was ready and gave me the keys to the room. Upon entering the room it was very quaint, however the room was on the smaller side so when I went back downstairs I asked if they by chance had any upgrades - they did not but they had the same room type but a different configuration he showed me the room and I agreed to move. I was very happy with the hotel I extended…

Great location. Old vibe but that isn't always good. Kind of musty smelling. The lady that helped us check in was great! The room was very small. We didn't have hot water in the shower in the morning, but warm is better than cold I guess. Good continental breakfast. They do have a storage room for luggage while you wait to check in and catch the boat off the island. That was a nice perk. Probably won't be back.

Thanks for your review. We are happy you enjoyed our continental breakfast and friendly staff. Our luggage storage is great and very convenient. The hot water does need to "wake up" in the morning too but after that, it's up and running. Your comments will be passed along to the management team.

This place was AMAZING! My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights and literally have no complaints I’ve stayed at many many hotels and resorts we vacation often. We got a suite for a room at a super reasonable price! Everything in the room was super comfortable from the bed to the couch to even the chairs! The staff was amazing and always going above and beyond! And it was in the middle of everything a super convenient location, rooms were super clean! All in all great! We’lldefinitely stay here again when visiting!

Quaint, older hotel with first-rate hospitality. We (two couples) were "stranded" on Catalina for an extra night. Due to the stormy weather, the ferries from the mainland were canceled. We found this place by chance, and there were rooms available (low season, midweek). As a matter of fact, the concierge gave us a $10 discount on each room due to our predicament! The rooms and bathrooms were clean and light. No complaints at all. We wanted to stay in but hang out together, so asked if we could get take out pizza and eat in the lobby by the big windows. We were encouraged to do so and ended up eating and playing cards while watching the rain and the occasional passers-by for the entire evening. Great fun and a perfect way to spend the time spontaneously.

I didn’t have any problems that other reviewers mentioned. My room was clean, it wasn’t noisy, and the continental breakfast was convenient. It’s a reasonably priced hotel, especially for the island. I’d stay here again.

Cute, rustic hotel on Catalina Island, walking distance to downtown and all the hot spots. I picked this hotel because of its location mostly, and because they came and picked us up after we landed by a helicopter from main land. You can walk to the dive shop from here and to all the restaurants for dinner, to the beach and the main dive spot by the Catalina Casino (the round building). The service and the room were nice as well.

as a lot of facilities on catalina, this hotel is pretty run down. I’d love a nice old fashioned victorian place - but this is nothing fancy, for the price it’s almost ridiculous. I guess we got one of the older rooms, breakfast (drip coffe, dry bagles and a couple of hard boiled eggs served on a plate) is a joke. the former beautiful breakfast room is not cared for, old sofas and trash in the corner, holes in the roof and not a lot of taste for anything realy. luckily we didn’t expect to much because of the good deal.

Thanks for your review. Glenmore Plaza Hotel is the oldest hotel on Catalina Island and the 2nd oldest in California. With that, we have recently renovated most of the hotel. Many have found our continental breakfast to be filling and great for starting the day. Your feedback will be shared with the management team for future improvement.

Another VERY highly priced hotel adjacent to Cresent Ave. Quaint rooms with a defunct sort of charm, all of the hotel staff were very accommodating. Had it not been for the blaring music (which kept us up until 2:30 in the morning), I would have given this hotel a 3/5 stars.

Thank you for your review. Our location definitely cannot be beat! Many do consider our hotel quaint and charming. Our unique history makes us even more interesting and our staff is top-notch, indeed. Unfortunately, we do not have control of the music outside. We hope you can reconsider adjusting the rating as you mentioned. Thank you so much and we hope you next time you visit Catalina Island.

Jack at the front desk was awesome to give us an intro on the history of the hotel and other golden nuggets about Avalon. The room was clean, very functional, extremely comfortable. Great experience. One of the oldest hotels in Calif.

Thanks, Sanjiv. We appreciate your time writing this review. Glenmore Plaza Hotel is the 2nd oldest hotel in California and the oldest hotel on Catalina Island! Our recent renovations have added nice modern amenities but leaving our quaint Victorian charm and untouchable history. We are happy you enjoyed your stay and we will pass on the nice words to Jack. Hope to see you again soon.

Good location in the middle of town and walking distance to the beach. Oldest hotel on Catalina Island but some rooms and suites have been renovated. We stayed at the Charlie Chaplin Suite. It was very roomy and I specially liked the size and decor of the bathroom. The shower was very large with multiple shower heads. There was a king sized bed and a pull out sofa in the room. The view was of the street. Shuttle is complimentary to and from the docks. Continental breakfast is included and served in the adjacent room in front of the hotel. The breakfast selection was basic like oatmeal, bagels, cereal, yogurt, hard boiled eggs, coffee and juice. Specialty coffee was an extra charge. They have a luggage room to store your bags if you check in early or if your ferry leaves…

Thanks for your review. We are happy you enjoyed the Charlie Chaplin Suite and found our staff was friendly. Our complimentary shuttle and complimentary daily continental breakfast is definitely an added convenience for guests. As the oldest hotel on Catalina Island, our history and uniqueness cannot be beat. We have recently renovated much of the hotel and will continue to improve upon the remainder. Please know that our staff is happy to assist with baggage to the top floors. Because of our central location, and being steps from the beach, you will hear people outside enjoying the evening. Thanks for staying with us and hope you will return to next time you're visiting Catalina Island.
