We wanted a private, spacious cabin with equipped kitchen and comfortable sitting areas ( inside and outside). Cabin #3 was perfect! The spirit of the mountain life is captured at Sunshine Mtn Resort. Covic precautions were evident and Cory and Kat are great resources for local attractions. The resautrant and hot tub were not open d/t covid precautions.

This place is amazing and exactly what we were looking for! We had 40+ family members from all over the US for a four day family reunion. Very affordable for everyone. Their website is full of local attractions. We went white water rafting, horseback riding, and spent a day in Estes Park, all very drivable from the lodge. We cook as a family and the kitchen was amazing, had every item we needed with a large pantry, full of spices and condiments. The lodge allowed us to have enough space inside and out to eat and gather as a family. Thanks Cory & Cat for a wonderful vacation!

My husband and I have stayed at Sunshine Mountain Lodge many times, and feel that this resort is the best place to stay on the Peak to Peak Highway. Sunshine Mountain Lodge is located in a serene mountain setting, with majestic pine trees and aspen trees. There is a large gathering room, which is perfect for larger groups. On the outdoor patio guests can view hummingbirds, chipmunks and other wildlife. The proprietors are very friendly and accommodating. Breakfasts are delicious and wholesome. Sunshine Mountain Lodge is a delightful place to visit!

My husband and I recently stayed at the Sunshine Mountain Lodge while visiting our children, who joined us at the lodge. This was my first cabin experience so I had no basis for comparison and relied on my husband for an opinion. He said it far surpassed any cabin at which he has every stayed. Cat and Cory, the lodge owners, have put their hearts into every aspect of the lodge while maintaining the rustic charm that fits it. The cabins are simple, lovingly decorated, and immaculately clean and have all the basics: a comfortable living area for relaxing, private sleeping, comfortable beds with quality bedding, a stove that kept us toasty warm at night and a spotless kitchen where care was even taken to have coffee and sugar and canisters stocked with staples. A delightul fresh and different breakfast awaited us each morning in the main lodge along with freshly brewed coffee and an amazing assortment of fresh local teas. Cat's own raw granola and banana milk were amazing! There are a couple hammocks, a picnic area with fire pit, a hot tub, and a little trail that gave us a good workout to the clearing at the top of their property for a peek at the mountaintops. The view of the stars and the black mountain across the road at night took our breath away. There are an outside deck and patio garden seating area off the main lodge for relaxing outside the cabin as well. It is a reasonable drive to hiking trails, RMNP and Estes Park so there is plenty to do, and Cat and Cory are knowledgeable about the area. While maintaining its rustic charm, the love and care that have been taken here are obvious at every turn and I am looking forward to a return to the hospitality of Sunshine Mountain!

I would not recommend Sunshine Mountain Inn unless the new owners really take control of the place, and bring the standards up. My daughter and I had the misfortune to have booked two nights with the original owner, Marge, who also required one night's payment in advance. She did not mention to me when taking the reservation, that she was selling the place and new owners were coming in. We arrived the day after the "change of ownership". It was quite obvious things were in "transition", and when we were shown to our cabin, it smelled musty and looked as if it had not been cleaned for some time as evidenced by thick dust on an old radio in the living room area. The only thing that appeared new were the towels in the closet-sized bathroom. We left for most of the afternoon thinking the housekeeping would have been done while we were gone, but when we got back later, that had not happened, and a loud party was also going on in the cabin next door. When it came time to go to bed, I decided to look at the bed linens to see if they were changed in one bedroom, and they were not as evidenced by stains and pubic hair. I then went into the other bedroom, and the same thing. Actually, both bedrooms looked as if they had not been cleaned in some time, and the beds should have been replaced -- they looked like something you get at the Salvation Army. In lieu of the ongoing loud party next door, and the filthy conditions of the cabin, we decided it would not be a comfortable situation to try to stay. We went back to Estes Park and were able to find a clean hotel for the night, and then go on to Denver in the daytime, a day earlier than planned and with more hotel expense involved. I called the owners the next morning after we left, and explained the reasoning behind our leaving and that we would not be at breakfast. I knew they were getting out of town company (the owner's mother), and did not feel that troubling them with our situation was the thing to do on their first day of ownership. In retrospect, I guess I should have gone down to the house, and talked with them. At any rate, as I had paid for both nights (the second night was paid for at the time of check-in) I told the owner I was not sure how they wanted to handle the situation. I have not heard from them since, nor have I received any type of refund in the mail. By the way, if the hot tub was as clean as the cabin we were in, I would be surprised, and the massages were not on site as one was led to believe -- one would have to call out of town for an appointment. I really think they were sold a "bill of goods" from former owner Marge who deceived them at the time of the sale. Hopefully they can make a go of it -- they seemed to be a nice young couple with a dream of owning a lodge in the mountains.

We spent 2 nights in Cabin #3. The cabin was warm, clean and comfortable. The living room area was very large and accommodating. The kitchen was equipped and supplied with coffee, sugar and creamer. We hiked the trail around the property, and it was refreshing. Cory and Cathy are welcoming and friendly. The healthy breakfast was awesome! I would definitely go back to this place!

I was fortunate to discover the Lodge when I was invited to a small retreat that was being held there. I had no idea what to expect as I live on the east coast -- and, I was so pleasantly surprised! The Lodge is located high in the mountains with beautiful views. The buildings, the food and the owners are each quite wonderful. The Lodge has a large common area, with some comfy couches & chairs. Also a patio & porches to appreciate the mountains. The meals were prepared and eaten in the kitchen, providing a warm and relaxed environment; and the owners were the most gracious and helpful. It snowed when we were there and I was not prepared -- but they had an extra pair of boots for me! There are individual cabins that are quite large, most with several beds, kitchens and couches -- all with a sweet rustic feeling. You know you are in the mountains. Bathrooms were totally adequate, very clean and newly painted, fluffy towels -- though not a "luxury bathroom." The best was the food! Each meal was better than the last -- and I love to eat and to cook. They also offer a raw foods menu which was unbelievably good. And I mean unbelievably good... we all raved at what we were eating. Was a most pleasant experience.

This funky place was the best pick for a winter-time long weekend of hiking and snowshoeing. It's rustic enough that you can feel the ambient temperature and hear clearly the wind in the trees. The cabins are old and delightfully free of prefab plastic and other depressingly misguided construction materials. Hardwood floors with rugs made my cabin (#2) feel clean and homey. Wood stove warmed up the place efficiently at the end of long days up the trails. Refrigerator was spacious. We didn't use the oven but the gas stovetop was fine, just needed to tune cooking to flame or no flame ("low" was only on the knobs, not in the gas response). The kitchen was adequately and simply stocked with cooking & dining things, but next time I'll bring my favorite cast iron skillet, my wooden cutting board, and a couple of kitchen knives. My friend and I look forward to coming back and staying longer.

We had a 25-year Peace Corps Reunion here in early August. Different people from all over were able to fly into to Denver and easily drive to this location. I've done other reunions in the past and the group REALLY liked this place for its accommodations and atmosphere.
The main building is PERFECT because it has a big kitchen with two stoves, two fridges, and lots of counter space to prepare food. They have every cooking dish/pot/utensil you could ever need. They have plenty of tables and chairs to sit at, inside or outside, depending on the weather.
The cabins, and rooms above the lodge, are cute and sufficient for a several day stay. I think they can easily sleep up to about 35 people (providing people don't mind cozying up in the "full-sized" beds. Many beds are queens and singles.
The location is half-way between Lyons and Estes Park. There are plenty of hiking trails around, both easy and hard. There are large grocery stores and liquor stores relatively near by (30 miles) in Longmont for shopping for large groups. Otherwise there are small stores in in Lyons and Estes, each about 18 miles away, but more expensive.
To give you an idea of what it cost us (for you own planning): We had 22 adults and 9 kids=31 people. We were able to host a 3-day reunion for: $150 per adult (to cover the cost of the whole lodge reservation --about $3200+ with taxes for the 3 days). We charged kids only $30 total for the 3 days, to make it cheap for parents to bring them. Our food cost only about $800, and alcohol about $350. Quite cheap once divided up. There was some other math going on (due to non-drinkers and such) but it basically cost about $50 for an adult for food and alcohol for the full 3 days. Very reasonable vacation price! (after travel costs)
The owners, Cory and Cat are on-site and helpful with any questions. We move our reunions around the country, but if we ever go back to Colorado, I would certainly go back to this lodge without a moment's hesitation!

We spent a long weekend here for a family reunion with 42 people aged 4 to 67. The venue worked out very well for us: a large kitchen, large living room for board games and hanging out, upstairs dormitory type area for teens and twenty-somethings, separate cabins for older couples and young families. Dogs are also welcome, as the owners have a well managed young wolfhound. The highway is rather close to the lodge, so on leash walks are best. My dachshund was particularly enamored of the many scurrying chipmunks.
The setting and style are rustic, not posh. Decor includes plenty of moose imagery. The kitchen had a carrot themed decor with plenty of glassware, cutlery, pots and pans and utensils. The only thing missing was an omelet pan (minor detail!). If you want fancy, this is not the venue, but everything was clean and well maintained
The beds were comfortable. Bed linens, sheets, towels and pillows were provided and of good quality. One issue was that some of the rooms were not well ventilated. Some windows were painted shut. Addition of the provided fans did help, as did an evening thunderstorm one night.
The main road through Rocky Mountain national park is about 40 minutes away, but there are some hiking trails in the park about 10 minutes drive. There are a few trails on site.
Costs were reasonable per person as we rented the entire site. Cory and Cat were great to work with and we were glad to see they recycled most items.
Would definitely recommend this Lodge for large group events.
