We were very pleasantly surprised by the beauty of the location and the expansive ocean view from each unit, notwithstanding the sargassum and the related fact that the ocean was unswimmable at this location. The rooms are tastefully decorated in Belizian decor, the rooms are quiet, and the beds are comfortable.
Roger, who arranges tours, was lax and appeared unmotivated. We took our business to Maya Mundo and Belizian Shores, and we found them much more responsive. However, the golf carts that are a MUST in Belize are a good price at Captain Morgan’s. Suggest renting them there for the duration of your stay for convenience and value. You’ll enjoy taking them to one of the several Secret Beach destinations, and they are a great convenience if you plan to visit the very charming Cay Caulker; this little island is not to be missed! Tip: fly rather than take the 90 minute ferry from the airport. Definitely worth the extra dollars. Tip: Once on Cay Caulker, be sure to take one of the five dollar round trip ferries on a very quick trip to Cocoa King. Gorgeous and almost empty. You’ll find beach cabanas and excellent swimming and snorkeling. (We brought our own snorkels.)
We were a bit taken aback by the $200 (400 BZ) non refundable fee for time share exchanges that greeted us upon arrival at the retreat. They explained it was for use of their kayaks and bikes, neither of which it appeared anyone used.
Overall, however, Captain Morgan’s is a great place to stay, and we would stay here again. The three pools on the property were lovely, and they’re a terrific place to meet your neighbors and exchange fun travel stories!
By the way, the food in Belize is wonderful. Our favorite restaurant was Capricorn, a quick walk from Captain Morgan’s. Be sure and try the outstanding cerviche!

We came here on a timeshare trade. Got a one bedroom with a kitchenette. We were a little disappointed that we got a charge on arrival of $200USD. This did cover electricity and one day of housekeeping. We were told after arrival that they offer free pickup at the airport and a discount on the cart rental for the “resort fee”.
Overall, we have had a very pleasant stay. This is not a Marriott, but certainly very comfortable and nice. The condo was nicely furnished. Some would say dated, but it worked for us. The bed is decent and the furniture cushions could be updated, but overall very comfortable.
The staff are very nice and accommodating. Grounds keeping is immaculate. We had a beautiful view from our room and lounge chairs a close walk. The pool was beautiful and they do have extra pool noodles, etc for everyone to use. I would not recommend the on-site store except for necessities, I.e. ice and water. No one drinks the tap water, you can buy the 5 gallon jug at the store. We did not visit the restaurant or bar on site. There are a few restaurants close by. A golf cart is a must.
As others have said, I think there are new owners, new construction going on and the name is changing to Oceans 23 which is beautiful. Overall, we would come back.

We really enjoyed this place. We had a bungalow on the beach front. It was amazing waking up every morning to see the sunrise. The grounds are very well kept with beach chairs and hammocks big enough for 2 people. They have 2 swimming pools, although we only used the one closest to our room. We did enjoy food in the restaurant, at the pool and had room service. We like the location of the resort because it's far enough away from the busy town of San Pedro but close enough to other restaurants and bars that you can walk to them. We did rent a golf cart at the resort for 24 hours to do a little exploring, but our main goal was to just hang out and relax. We did do one excursion where we got picked up at out dock. That was great and convenient. I would stay here again, and I do recommend.

So the wife and I own a Timeshare here one of the few that are left...this used to be my Go To Place once to twice a year sometimes. A few years back there was an owner and his wife from the states that ran it...Now there are some owners from another country that does NOT know the San Pedro Belize vibe and is changing the landscape, the apperance and the cleanliness is downhill....The views from the pool and bar area used to be beautiful when you were eating and drinking and now you can see buildings in your view as you look to the Reef, not good...I am finding that they are not using the maintenance money that we and everyone else is paying every year to upgrade or fix things and so when we go there things are broken and the Resort actuallys shuts down for an entire month just to do these things. I tend to want to enjoy the bar and the food there becasue the bartenders and cooks know myself and my wife like we are family. The restrooms outside by the restaurant area and bar are Terrible at best! If things don't change I will be looking to transfer our Timeshare to another location on the Island because La Isla Bonita is the Best place I have visited for vacation and love the people there. It is the only vacation in the Carribean that I can take and not spend a lot of money, catch 3 planes in the morning including a hopper and have a Belikin in my hand by 12:00 noon!!!!! I am writing this hoping the owners see this and take some advisce on what people may look for in a Belizean vacation. We have been going to Belize (San Pedro) for 20 years. Some of you reading this may know us:)

The view from our room was about the only things that we loved. We planned this to be one of our more “high end” vacations for our 10 year anniversary. The price was absolutely ridiculous for what we got. First of all we rented a golf cart from town to get there. We ended up passing it two times before we found it because it looks a like a run down shed in front. Nothing other than a sign across the road that says “captain Morgan’s retreat”. No arrow or anything else that would suggest it’s right there. It looks like sand on the beach, it is not. It’s hard, almost like a gravel. The water there is not drinkable so you have to purchase a 5 gallon tank of water for your stay. We woke up the first morning and ordered breakfast at the resort that took over 2 hours to finally get. It was good, but not great. The main pool is possibly the smallest pool I’ve ever seen at a resort. The swimup bar is not running and apparently hasn’t been for over three years. The staff was very friendly which was encouraging. We had to finally ask for room service on day four to get fresh towels and our garbages empty. We listened to construction the entire time we were there. Very disappointed and would not go back.

It had been 6 years since I was last at Captain Morgan's resort. There have been some changes to the place.
BIGGEST and BEST change is the new management of the restaurant/bar area. It is now run by Greg in the kitchen, Joel on the bar and Ethel who fills in everywhere! These people really make the place stand out. They were so helpful and accommodating and fun to be around. They all went out of their way to address any questions and cook some amazing food and make fun drinks. Ethel is a budding magician so be sure to ask her to do some tricks for you! We caught fish, lobster and conch that they cooked and prepared for us over the course of 2 days that was outstanding.
Check in was very efficient and the staff at the front desk were very helpful and accommodating. They were very good about answering questions and explaining everything.
Spa services are in a new location since I was last there. I miss it being right on the water, however storms had taken out the other location. The spa ladies were very nice and the rates were not out of hand.
Due to Covid, the casino has closed and not been reopened. That is no big deal. Some of the units have separated from the original resort and now call themselves Oceans 23. We stayed in the same building that I stayed in 6 years ago, this time on the top floor. Fabulous location for views and breezes. The furnishings were fine in the bedroom however the couch and chair in the living room really need to be updated as it was very difficult to sit on them comfortably. The hot water takes a few minutes to get up to speed due to it having to get up to the top floor. However once it is there it is spot on!
The grocery store does not have a lot to offer, so I would get supplies from the other locations closer to town.
You need a golf cart to get around and there is plenty of parking for it at the resort. I would get the golf cart prior to arriving and rent from one in town as they seem to have better rates.
One BIG change is they have taken down the big palapa that had a dance/gathering and bar area and constructed a two story building which will be rooms to rent. This totally cut off the view from the pool of the water. There is a new bar constructed right on the beach area that is really perfect. Be careful though because it has a step down that can send you tripping.
I would go back again and have no problem recommending this place.

I've been to Belize 7 times and Captain Morgan's was the absolute Best and friendliest staff ever. Our bedroom villa was on the top floor overlooking the Caribbean and everything about the property was professional, efficient and 5 Stars all the way! I've never experienced a room in Belize where everything worked and the staff always provided Top-notch service from the pools to the restaurant and the office staff to the cleaning services and maintenance. I will definitely be going back some day! Rick Broida

As a time share owner, I have been continuously disappointed in the resort since it was purchased by new owners in 2018. Though they appear to be making some improvements in the property, they have not made, any efforts to maintain the timeshare units. We have owned timeshares there for nearly 20 years, and the units have the same furniture they had 20 years ago. The sofa bed is essentially unusable. Hence, there is no comfortable seating in the unit. The mattress is completely sunk in the middle, also extremely uncomfortable. The lighting in the units is terrible, and the resort does not provide any useful amenities that other timeshare resorts normally provide. (Such as salt & pepper, paper towels, and adequate dishes) Yet, they are building more hotel rooms. It is obvious that they have no interest in accommodating timeshare owners. If you are looking to trade your timeshare unit for Captain Morgans, I would not recommend it. I am afraid you would be greatly disappointed. It is just sad to see this once beautiful resort deteriorate as it has these last few years.

We left Secret Beach early to come back for their Sunday Funday and barbecue that runs 11-5 on Sundays and it was a bummer. The beer was cold but we watched for 2 hours as food tray after food tray passed us without our food coming. The server came and asked us to remind him what our order was, we told him and we watched him carry out food for another hour before we finally settled our tab without ever getting our food. We are not going to starve as we'll go elsewhere and get some supper. It is however very disappointing to have someone miss the order, ask to fix it, then forgets again? Or were they more concerned about their local friends visiting on a Sunday? The local family music group/dj was great or else this post would be a 0!!

We stayed at the Capitan Morgan resort in August of 2024. It was our first time to San Pedro, Belize. We travelled during the offseason so the resort was pretty quiet and not many of the normal amenities were available.
The hotel staff seemed friendly but not overly accommodating, perhaps due to it being off season. We tried to book several day trips and excursions but after visiting the tour office 4 times, we never did get to speak to anyone. We ended up booking our tours with another company.
We booked a taxi to the airport and it was over 20 minutes late so also please make sure to give yourself a lot of room for traffic.
We would not stay at the Capital Morgan resort, San Pedro again. If you do choose this resort, make sure to plan on renting a golf cart and booking your tours elsewhere.

After landing at the airport, take the shuttle bus to the ferry. The crowded ferry ride is 90 minutes. Once you depart the ferry at San Pedro, you can rent a golf cart that you will need for your entire stay. Alternatively, you can pay in advance for someone from Captain Morgan’s to take you to the resort where you can rent a golf cart the next day for a better price. Another option that is just a bit more expensive is to fly from the airport directly to San Pedro. It’s a fun and scenic plane ride that’s only 15 minutes. Once your plane arrives in San Pedro, you can easily rent a golf cart at the airport. Bon voyage!
Yes. The casino is closed indefinitely. However, the staff had been doing work to the building last week-leading one to believe that something new was going to happen with the structure.
Hi and thanks for your inquiry - we actually rent golf carts right here at the resort. Our pricing can be viewed under the Amenities tab of our website. You simply need to call our toll-free reservations number to secure one prior to your stay and we will have it waiting at the resort for you.
There are more places to choose from in the San Pedro area.
