Very good rate for the island, right on the beach, great place to meet others, and the boxes are really not that small, and very clean and comfortable and the showers are good too. I'd stay there again.
We stayed for one night. The pros outweigh the cons. Pros are hot water, plenty of shared bathrooms, free wi-fi, free breakfast, and free a/c from 8 pm- 8 am. Cons- room number two with double bed had a bad mattress and made for an uncomfortable night of sleep. There is a sports bar next door that tourists party at, so it's loud until about midnight, but you can mostly drown it out with your ac unit fan. And we were surprised to get a free breakfast in the morning.
Stayed here for 4 nights whilst learning to scuba dive in caye caulker. The hostel was basic with very small 2 bed private dorms with aircon. We were lucky enough to have working aircon but some weren't so lucky. Beds were reasonably comfortable but we heard rumours of other guests having bed bugs, we didn't experience any however. Staff were very friendly and had a very nice cheap restaurant attached to the hostel, with a lovely breakfast! Would stay here if you're on a budget!
I stayed at La Cubana for 4 nights in January 2017. The location is on the beach, about a block away from the 2 watertaxis. In the centre of "town". It has a nice restaurant with a free breakfast and a free welcome rum drink. The rooms are Very small but the price is right. Shared bathrooms which were in great shape. At night there is a active bar scene next door that pumps out the music, so do consider that. The internet is good overall, but weak/dead in the hostel rooms if you are too far down the hall. The lady who runs the hostel is Daine and she is very nice and helpful. For the price I thought it was excellent.
