My husband and I visited La Milpa in January. If one arrives with the proper expectations, this is a marvelous experience. Yes you do need a sturdy 4-wheel drive TRUCK with good clearance to get here on a long, rutted dirt road. Luckily the rental car company insisted on this when we told them where we were going. Getting there...

This place is as described on their website. The mgt. and staff really do have their ducks in a row. From reservations, meal preferences, scheduled tours, the cabana, etc, everything was as it should be. I was also lucky enough to have four private tours with Marcos, who is normally at the Hill Bank Field Station. Marcos is professional, very...

If you want the Hilton, stay home! This is a great place dedicated to conservation and education. Very comfortable, clean, and rustic. Staff was very accommodating and devoted, and the place was run with minimal environmental impact. Food was good and plentiful. The director was a very devoted professional dedicated to preserving Belize and it's wildlife. If you come with...

We had a great time in La Milpa. Peaceful place, lovely staff - and a wonderful guide (Melvis), who was a passionate birder as well as a knowledgeable guide for the site of La Milpa. I wish we will be able to return some time to spend some more time in this wonderful place. Absolute recommendation for people who want...

We were with a group of Birders on this trip. We stayed in one of the duplex bungalows on the station site and it was nice, but rustic- with the exception that we had hot water in the shower. The food at the site was good, with black beans and rice, along with vegetables and (usually) some type of chicken...

The official name of this property is La Milpa EcoLodge and Research Center, and although it does serve as a field station for visiting researchers and students, catering to tourists is also accorded high priority. The grounds are nicely landscaped and meticulously maintained, and the thatched-roof cabanas look as charming as those at any purely commercial lodge. La Milpa truly...

We stayed at la Milpa 2 nights in January 2014 and were very excited to discover Belize jungle and maybe some of their famous mammals...unfortunately, this stay was finally one of our least souvenir from our 2 week vacation in Belize. We arrived at 7PM and the guide Melvis, that is a very friendly man, was not really enthousiastic answering...

Julien, I am very sorry that you did not receive value for money. As you may be aware, the La Milpa Ecolodge is owned and managed by our organization, Programme for Belize. In order to provide an educational and recreational experience that at the same time will generate much needed revenues for the protection and management of Rio Bravo, our...

I was one of 24 that came to the field station for an Eco-tour. It was so peaceful even with the rain that didn't want to let up but that was part of the experience at this time of year. Hummingbirds, exotic birds, animals and a crocodile named Lisa. They have bunks for the adventurous and bungalows for those less...

We drove eight hours from Mexico to visit this field station and we were so excited to get there. We travelled as a family of 5 (3 teenage children) to La Milpa and Hillbank Field Stations. Words cannot express how wonderful it was! The setting for both places was stunning.
