We stayed 2 nights, the first previous to the Thursday market. Lunch and cocktail at San Juan (near the church, outside garden, on Manuels advice) were great. Cold at night, but more than sufficient blankets. Cementary was impressive, no guide needed. Church nice and rituals being performed. Safe everywhere. Nice location of the small hostel. Great breakfast. A sister hostal...

I stayed at Hotel Chalet for 2 nights in July in order to catch the Thursday market. I had been reluctant to book as it seemed a bit away from the action around San Tomas church and the main square. (Guide books and previous travellers are always cautioning you that Guatemalan towns are not places where you should walk home...

This was a fine place to spend a couple of nights. The fellow who ran the place was fantastically helpful. The accommodations were basic - they were the minimum with no frills. But the beds were good enough and the town was the attraction. If I go back to that town, I'll stay there again.

If you don't want to spend $110 on a fancy hotel then this is the place to stay. family operated, clean rooms and great service...Manuel and his family were very kind, they recommended places to eat and arranged transportation... Cleanest beds we have stayed in thus far in Guatemala.

First of all, Manuel acted surprised when he saw us. Luckily, I had printouts of numerous emails (in Spanish) documenting our correspondence and confirmation of the reservation. Second, he tried to put us into the more expensive room on the third floor and was asking for much more money although the reservation was for the basic room on the first...

I've been staying with Manuel and Lucia off and on for over 15 years and have watched the hotel grow and develop. It's always a joy to stay there. Quiet, clean, but best of all the family that owns it. So helpful. Whatever you want to see and do, they can make it happen. Plus Lucia's homemade breads and rolls...

The Hotel Chalet is a very authentic Guatemalan hotel run by a local family. It was the least expensive place we could find: basic, not luxurious. There is no elevator, just plenty of steps! However, it is a little hard to find, but worth the trouble. The location is close to the market and town. We enjoyed the view from...

I have stayed at this hotel before and I have always been satisfied. It is a super simple hotel, but very clean. I also appreciated how quiet it is. The owners told me that they just got a new internet provider and their WiFi is now fast... it was good news and I was able to use it in my...

We used to live in Chichi and know that there aren't many options there. We ended up at the Hotel Chalet after reservations at another place didn't work out. The Chalet was fun and quirky, and very much an authentic Guatemalan hotel run by a local family. It was the least expensive place we stayed and wasn't luxurious, but it...

It was ok, just that. Managing expectativas is everything. Somehow, reading other reviews I expected something special...I know, I know, that every tourist's fantasy... The place is ok on a side street. Clean enough. Noting special. A bit overpriced for what we got. But having said that on a Saturday evening, just before the market, it is probably a good...
