Dar Hafsa is a traditional 19th century Morocccan home. Recently renovated, the house is a beautiful example of fine Moroccan craftsmanship. The ornate tile work and painted doors reflect the best in cultural design. An open floor plan with multiple indoor balconies gives the house a cozy feeling, but not at the expense of privacy. A roof-top terrace offers an expansive view of the Fes Medina and the Riff Mountains. This lovely accommodation is seven minutes from the Blue Gate (Bab Bouljoud), and a simple right-hand turn from the main street (derb sidi safi souiket ben safi talaa sghira) and souk. It is situated on a quiet, clean byway. Those looking for a more authentic Fes stay will find themselves a reasonable distance from hustle and bustle of the shopping and trade. You will feel welcome at Dar Hafsa by the family who manages the guest house, Mariam and Aziz and their parents. They are friendly and generous. English, French, and Arabic languages are spoken well, along with some Spanish and German. Your comfort and satisfaction is assured, and the family can share their local knowledge to enrich your stay.

Our visit to Dar Hafsa was truly excellent. The owner Abdul could not have been more welcoming or accommodating He truly went the extra mile from helping us look for table cloths at the market to recommending great restaurants and authentic Hammon. His staff was equally

I can't speak enough about the riad and the owner. Both provide the top tier experience you always hope to find but seldom do. Owner (and staff) are helpful, kind and works hard to give an amazing experience to travellers. Exactly the place for those looking for a slight

Beautifully decorated Riad with exquisite painted woodwork and traditional Moroccan blanket on the bed with matching curtains. The host and his Muhammad’s are very hospitable and they bend over backwards to accommodate your wishes, organise activities and help with shopping.

When I have previously stayed in Morocco which I have done a number of times; I’ve mainly stayed in 5 star hotels. On this occasion I booked Dar Hafs with my wife for four nights, largely due to the number of positive reviews that this place has coupled with its superb location

Ok I had very high expectations having read the reviews but really this was the worst place we stayed at in Morocco amd we stayed at 8 Riads during our trip. I only added one star because the owner was kind enough to walk us to the spice store where we got really good quality

Response from MerieID, Manager at Dar Hafsa
Responded yesterday
Dear Rochnah 2017 , It really saddened me to read this review . Though I am struggling to identify the guest who post this review and whom I sent a private message requesting the staying date to be sure if s/he was one of my guests but get no answer, I would like to deal with some points raised in this review : All our laundries( sheets) are cleaned within the guests’ stay upon their request as we have to take permission to get inside the room and for sure after each guests’ check out. We strongly care about the hygiene of the place and be assured I can’t tolerate this part. Since you weren’t happy with the room and found the sheets uncleaned why you didn’t mention this to me or to my house manager during the stay . We would have done all our best to satisfy you by moving you to an alternative room . Our aim and priority is always guests’ satisfaction. I am really perplexed and if you were really one of our guest ,we do apologise for not conveying the same impression to you as most of our guest have Looking forward to hearing from you as I said before I have sent a private message to know your staying date because I looked up in my records and didn’t found your name and I would be graceful if you can contact us through tripadvisor. Kind regards,

Hello Linda. Dar Hafsa itself is deep in the medina and every place you want to go from there is going to be up or down. Walking is your only option. There is no vehicular traffic in the medina. So even if you stay nearer the edge, anything you might want to see in the medina is down and back up. It is certainly an interesting and ancient atmosphere but not easy. We spent five days in Fez and our view was somewhat colored by cold/flu but I think two days would have been enough and three plenty. If you stay at Dar Hafsa, they will meet you at the gate and you need them to. Don't imagine you will readily find your way around Fez medina on your own and any friendly volunteer WILL financially abuse you. I expect most Dars/Riads you might stay at will do that for you and will also arrange any guides or day trips you might want. Yes they will get a cut of the fee and probably of anything you buy but so will your guide and any other third party you might deal with. At least your hotel is somewhat accountable and wants a good review. However "official" your guide may be and however much you may disclaim shopping, his chief interest is going to be to take you to the Tannery and the Rug Factory (???I need my wife) and he IS part of the sales team. The reality is that the Tannery, Weavery?, and perhaps an equivalent pottery place are the most interesting things to see in Fez. I can't remember but don,t think you should have to pay more than 150 durhams for a guide. Avoid the expensive lunch (that everyone will get a cut of) and do that meal when you want to. We rented a car for two of our six weeks and saw Moulay Idress/Volubilis and Chefchaoen that way. The former would be a great day trip. The latter might be better as an overnighter but the countryside/ride is also interesting. None of those places are easy walking. I don,t know your time lines but, if that is a limiting factor, you might want to choose Marrakech over Fez. Flat, better museums and galleries, possible on your own and at your own speed, and the medina is almost as fascinating and less aggravating. Best wishes. Darrell
