Arriving in Dar Seffarine the first time truly took our breath away; after wandering through the winding alleys, being welcomed into the candlelit inner courtyard was like entering a different world of magic and mystique. Throughout our stay at Dar Seffarine this wonderful atmosphere continued...More

This place is awesome! The intricate wall patterns with a play of colors is to behold. Courtyards were lovely and so was the rooftop with a view of the medina below and the skies above. Much like staying in an alhambra! Unforgettable experience.
The hotel we stayed in is one of the reasons why we fell in love with Fez. It's like an oasis with unbelievable atmosphere. After having the experience of traditional breakfast, which Alaa himself prepared, we decided to eat dinners at the hotel too. The...More

I completely understand wanting to have some choices for dinner. We walked throughout the medina and I think there are certainly restaurants nearby, or not too far of a walk from Dar Seffarine. In terms of safety, although the streets in the Medina may seem a little dark at night, we did not feel unsafe once we were familiar with the area. The first night we arrived in Morocco and we walked through the the Medina to get to the riad I was a little uncomfortable, but after seeing everything in the light of day and walking around a bit I felt totally safe the following evening.
If you decide to stay at Dar Seffarine, have them arrange transport from the airport for you, it was so easy and inexpensive. finding your way around the Medina can be quite overwhelming.
The staff there will definitely provide you with directions and remember when you are walking through the Medina, be careful who you take directions from. Many boys and men will tell you that a street is closed so that they can guide you and they would want payment.
It was such a great place to stay I would definitely stay there again, even if it meant walking a little bit further for dinner. Looking at the map, it looks quite far from restaurants, but I don't think it would be longer than 10 minutes or so to most of them.
Hope this helps.
