As many have already stated this Riad is amazing! Gilles and his staff go above and beyond and it really feels like a personal and homely experience staying here.
Our highlight was the food! The breakfast is amazing with everything homemade (jams, yoghurt, cake) that really sets you up for the day ahead. We loved the yoghurt! We paid for the tasting menu at the Riad when we arrived as we landed in the evening. This was again delicious and meant we didn’t need to find somewhere to eat on arrival when we didn’t know the area yet. You can ask for a traditional Moroccan mint tea at any time too.
The area for us felt really safe, it is on the edge of the Medina so you are close enough to the hustle and bustle of the Souks but the Riad itself was in a calm and quieter location. It’s also close enough to one of the main roads that you can easily get a taxi, though we walked everywhere.
As others have stated - Gilles is extremely helpful and will give you advice on where to visit and any other questions you might have. I got henna done at the Riad which was much safer and cheaper than having it done in the main square. If you are looking to buy any Argan oil during your stay - Gilles sells real Argan oil at the Riad for a good price, don’t be tricked into buying fake Argan oil at the Souks like I was!
The rooms have high quality shower gel, shampoo and body lotion with a little Argan oil too. This was ideal for us as we were limited on liquids to bring in our hand luggage.
The rooms have both a ceiling fan and air conditioning. As it is a traditional Riad the rooms stay cool without air conditioning (even in 39 degrees Celsius heat) so we only used it now and again.
We really hope we will visit again in the future, thank you Riad Abaca Badra!

From the moment we arrived, we knew we had found something special. Gilles, the charismatic owner, greeted us at the door with his warm French-English humor and sat us down with a map of Marrakech before we even saw our room. The Riad itself is as authentic as it gets—quaint, traditional, and full of character. Although not accessible by road, Gilles arranged for a driver to collect us from the airport and had someone meet us with a trolley for our luggage—just part of the adventure!
The location is perfect, right near the central souks and markets, easy to navigate with Google Maps. But the real highlight? The food. Absolutely incredible. We enjoyed a homemade lamb and chicken tagine with couscous, mint tea, and cinnamon-dusted oranges for dessert—all for around €18. Breakfast was a feast of homemade yoghurt, jams, Moroccan pancakes, eggs, cakes, and more. The rooms are simple, clean, and traditionally decorated, with thoughtful touches like argan oil products, fresh fruit, and even plug adaptors and sunscreen if needed.
If you’re looking for authenticity, great food, and a host with a fantastic sense of humor, this is the place to be. 5/5—would return in a heartbeat!

It is really difficult to praise this Riad and its management in just a few lines. Starting from the attention to the guest, to his care and protection, providing a telephone connected to the Riad in case of emergency, to the pampering of the home made breakfast in extraordinary tranquility, accompanied by the singing of the birds. To finish with attention to every detail, accessory and decoration of the environment. In the rooms there is everything you need, even fresh fruit, argan oil and soft bathrobes and slippers. On the terrace a magnificent solarium, equipped with sunbeds, towels and straw hats! The tranquility is surprising, if you think that we are in the center of the medina of a bustling city at all hours. The location is perfect for getting around on foot and overall the stay didn't make us regret the aseptic atmosphere of a hotel with 200 rooms! It felt "at home". Thanks thanks thanks. We really hope to return soon. Lastly, even if this is the most important thing, the friendliness, kindness and helpfulness of the host Gil. you are the soul of this place! Marvelous!

We spent 8 nights staying in the Meknes room, located on the ground floor of this lovely riad. On arrival we were warmly welcomed by Gilles, who after checking us in, gave us a detailed map and explained our location and recommended places to visit, as well as what to avoid. He even lent us a phone to use, whilst we sorted out a local Sim card. The riad was clean, the staff friendly, and is in a perfect location to explore the surrounding area on foot, with most attractions being within a 30 minute walk. You will need google maps to help you get around as the area is made up of a myriad of allies as well as main roads. We had breakfast daily at the riad which was all home made, including the jam and yogurt! As well as different breads and fruit, Gilles was happy to make eggs of your choice too. We also dined several nights at the riad, and there was a plentiful choice of home made traditional moroccan food. I would recommend the tasting menu for your first night, which gives you a flavour of what is on offer. Prices were also reasonable at 15 euro for 2 courses and 18 euro for 3 courses. Food is eaten in the courtyard, which is conveniently situated right outside your room (if on the ground floor). A note about accessibility. I chose this riad as I use a wheelchair but can walk a little. If you are a permanent wheelchair user and cannot stand/walk, I would not recommend you stay here, only because there is not room for a wheelchair at the side of the bed to transfer on to. Also in the bathroom you cannot fit a wheelchair under the sink, or reach the shower head and the toilet would involve a head on transfer. There are also some steps and steep ramps to navigate to access the building. However, if you can mobilise a bit and maybe have some help, then you should be OK. There is a step down, at the entrance and then 3 tight, 45 degree turns to access the courtyard. Our room then had a small step into it. Once in the room though, it was flat access into the bathroom and had a walk in shower. Before my arrival I requested a seat to use in the shower and there was one ready for me when I arrived. Gilles is incredibly helpful and accommodating, with a great sense of humour. He even helped us fix a puncture on our first night by lending us some tools! In summary, this is a great little riad to stay in whilst exploring Marrakech and I would highly recommend it.

Our experience began with the very convenient transport service from the airport to Gilles' Riad. As soon as we arrived Gilles welcomed us with his irony and the typical Moroccan sweet mint tea, accompanied by some delicious biscuits, always typical and homemade (which we have never found so good again in the city)! The rooms were comfortable, equipped with Wi-Fi and the bathroom was beautiful and cared for in every detail. I loved the super soft bathrobes and would like to get them for my home too! In the bathroom there were local detergents and Argan oil, which you can buy at a fair price and of excellent quality! My mom loved it! Gilles' cook is truly special and we had 2 super tasty dinners served in typical steaming tagines! This service, like the transport service, gives the guest infinite comfort, Gilles solves any problem and his welcome is truly difficult to forget! For the first time, I felt at home in a hotel! Gilles was so nice when we left, preparing us breakfast at 4am to say goodbye and take it to the airport! All these attentions, unrepeatable and unobtainable, make the place an excellence! The Riad also has a gorgeous, sunny terrace with gorgeous sunbeds and sun hats! Gilles will be happy to organize your hand henna with his trusted women who only use non-toxic products for the skin. He can also recommend places for a hammam that will put you back into the world. He advised us where to buy things at non-touristy prices and gave us great tips for visiting the city! What else can I say?! I miss it so much already and I don't know how I'll live without it from now on! I jealously keep the tajine he gave us when we left with the logo of his beautiful Riad. Everything superb! A big hug dear Gilles, if you come to Italy I will also want to serve you in the same way in my beautiful and breakfast L'Oasi di Auletta, in the province of Salerno! I told my mom to serve the homemade jams the way you serve them to your guests! Oh I was about to forget breakfast, my favorite meal which was the best ever: homemade jams with a genuine and spacey flavour, the almond pesto with Argan oil and cactus honey which cannot be described and which I would have wanted to buy (but unfortunately I should have ordered it before), fried eggs, Moroccan bread, delicious crêpes, homemade yogurt with a unique flavour! There day always started happily after every breakfast! Thank you very much for everything! ❤️

This riad is simply amazing, as well as the owner and his personnel, I would rate even more than 5. The structure is a typical moroccan riad, we have been in 2 different rooms during our stay and they were both very large, confortable, with all utilities you may need (soap, shampoo, shower gel, body lotion, and also a cuddle with a little of argan oil). Gilles is such a nice person, it was really a pleasure to us talking to him and laughing together while resting in the common area. Saida and Soumia are always ready to help you and offer a menthe tea (the best we have drunk in the entire trip in Morocco) with biscuits. Breakfast is insanely good, everything is home-made, the jams, the pie, even the yoghurt, so rich than we didn't need to have lunch. It is located in the Medina, so you can reach any place by walking, we have never used a taxi. However, it is not in the middle of the souk area, so you can avoid at the end of your day the noise of that area. One of the best place ever we have been, really, and once we go back to Marrakech, this will be definitely our choice! Thank you again for the great experience!

What a fantastic Riad! The host Gilles was just incredible as were the lovely staff. If you’re looking for a traditional place to stay in the heart of the Medina, this is it! The place is walking distance to the Square and main Mouassine shopping streets as well as 25mm max in any direction to numerous major tourist attractions like the Saadian Tombs, Palaces and Jardin Majorelle. Across the road you have Fanous Rooftop, Zaman Food, and the Restaurant Pizzeria (Aux Portes du Desert), for great cheap local food. The Riad is beautifully furnished in authentic style with free toiletries and all mod cons, the shower is just wonderful, powerful and hot. Lovely fluffy towels and robes and slippers provided, they really have thought of everything. The daily cleaning and bed service was excellent. We did stay on the ground floor and you will therefore hear a little bit of noise as people eat dinner/breakfast on the patio outside, but for us it added to the charm of the place and no B&B would be completely quiet. Gilles provides an excellent breakfast in the morning of fruit, yoghurt, pancakes, eggs and cakes. Free tea anytime. The rooftop terrace is a fabulous suntrap with lots of comfy beds and hats to use, it was just a shame the hot tub wasn’t filled. The birds come in through the atrium and their song adds to the ambience. I bought some red olives from the market and Gilles was kind enough to vacuum pack them for me to take home. He even let us buy one of his teapots after we were conned into buying a cheap knock off at the markets! We used the driver arranged by the riad for our airport transfers and it was quick and cheap, the driver was very pleasant. Thanks Gilles and all the team for your excellent hospitality.

The Riad de Gilles is quietly located in a wooded alley in the medina. Everything is perfect! A host always available who gives sound advice. The rooms are distributed around a very nice patio where banana trees grow. The decoration is very neat. Gilles and his team are very attentive and make sure that nothing is missing: the kitchen is exquisite, everything is homemade! Mint tea is served on request, accompanied by Moroccan cupcakes. Breakfasts are different every morning and are hearty! The lemon chicken tagine served in the evening, a killing! Shower products and shampoo in the bathroom also homemade argan, bathrobes available. In short a real little oasis!!!

I read the reviews for this riad and decided to book it thinking that it was perhaps overrated. Please read all the previous reviews! All of them are telling the truth! Giles and his team are the best, most caring and wonderful people there could be! There is such a vibe when you walk in! They are softly spoken, very hospitable and caring without being pushy and they really look after you. My luggage was lost (then delivered the following day) but it didn’t bother me at all. Giles gave me a toothbrush and toothpaste and suddenly there was no stress at all. I even had slippers! The bedroom was gorgeous with good pillows, good linen, great air conditioning and fan facilities and a very comfortable bed. The bathroom was also great with a very powerful shower, bathrobe and toiletries. The WiFi was as powerful as the ones you get back home. Breakfast was stunning with homemade jams, fresh fruit, fresh orange juice, Moroccan pancakes and even eggs if you want. The coffee couldn’t get any better. Although it is only a few yards from a small souk, the place is calm, quiet and you can’t hear a thing from the outside world. Even coming back at night, be assured that it is a very secure place and there’s even a security booth just outside, with a security guard , not that you need it but just for reassurance. I have been to Marrakesh many times and this was not my last one. I am certain I will be seeing Giles and his lovely “family” again as I won’t go anywhere else. Thank you very much for the amazing experience!!!

We just spent 4 nights there for an incredible experience! Kindness, presence, attention from all the staff Fresh, homemade products for breakfast, lots of little touches in the rooms (fruit, water, toiletries) A value for money that is clearly superior to other more expensive riads and the feeling of being at home 🏠... Lots of advice from Gilles, impeccable cleanliness and Soumia’s dinner!!! The best tagine by far🎉
