We arrived at Mikadi beach by bike after several months of bike travelling through Africa. This was our lay-over point for continuing onwards to Zanzibar, and suited us perfectly. Julia the manageress was really very helpful and went out of her way to help us arrange passage on the ferry and help with a host of other biker related issues...

Been in Dar for 2 years, paid my first visit to Mikadi Beach and regret not having been there before. The location: beautiful. Right in front of some islands, just off the ferry, so close to Dar Es Salaam yet so far away from the hectic life. A lot of young travellers and backpackers are guests at Mikadi, which makes...

We stayed here one night instead of the 2 planned, and are not very demanding travellers, have been cycling all over Africa and know how to rough it. But this place... Very poor value for money (although not expensive and on a beautiful location): brackish water from the shower, filthy chalets, damp mattresses and pillows, loud music between 12 pm...

Chill in the day socialise and party at night. Enjoy simple beauty at its best. Here nature provides the frills so your wallet don't have to pay. Rooms are basic but clean which is exactly what I look for. Food is good prices are good staff great community great fun. If you prefer experience over luxury this is a place...

As always as a traveller I'm looking for value for money, experience and atmosphere and this place has it by the bucket load. All I can say is it is what it is. Location paradise, food is great and reasonably priced as are drinks. As for the atmosphere, well it's certainly a place to chill. Good staff, good people, good...

What a joke of a place. ! No fresh water! This has been one of my worst experiences during this travel though Africa. Arriving at a place, after more than 18 hours of traveling and not being able to take a “normal” fresh water shower is just not fair. Our group stay at this place, as it was recommended to...

We arrived here after landing in tanzania, little did we know that our first hotel was going to be our best hotel! And that we would return to it in the end of our holiday because we missed it there. The owner Lucho was very friendly and made us feel home from the start. There was hanging a relaxed atmosphere...

I just paid a day visit here as I live in Dar. The resort has a relaxed atmosphere and on a Sunday there was a mix of locals, trail bikers and overlanders as quite a lot of overland voyagers leave their trucks here for a few days while they visit Zanzibar. The bar staff are friendly but stocks limited. There...

We had to book twice through booking.com because after two days we got an email that the booked room was taken by someone else. The salt showers were annoying. There is also no fresh water to wash your hands. So everything is and stays sticky. The bed was just a thin mattress. Not that comfortable and could have been cleaner....

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Mikadi Beach Lodge derives its name from the Mikadi tree which thrives along the beautiful Tanzanian coastline. Jo (Zimbabwean) & Lucho (Chilean) married and owner/managers, took over the lodge in February 2008 and since then have embarked on a complete refurbishment of the place. If you have your heart and soul in a place this emanates to staff and clients alike. We are in love with Mikadi and that shows in everything we do to make your stay with us both enjoyable and memorable. They say location is everything and we are in the perfect location! We are only 15 / 20 mins from the Zanzibar ferry so ideally placed for those travellers wanting to visit Zanzibar. ... more   less

“Fact is that I didn't use the room much. Haha spent most of the night / morning sipping killi and whiskey, swimming in the pool then watched the sun come up, then spent most of the next day snoozing in the hammock. Hahahah Classic night. If you need rest go for the upgrade with ensuite. If your going to party take the standard room as it is right in the beach.”
