I stayed here for two nights and enjoyed the stay. It's very basic but scenic also. I ate here one night and the food was good, they also have decent beer. It's a 10 minute walk to the beach which is pretty amazing. Don't expect the ritz here and you won't be disappointed.

I loved the all atmosphere of this hotel, lovely rooms, lovely food and service and the beach is quite nice. The village Varela is a bit abandoned but still a good place to stay a couple of days if you want to know the north of the country (savanne landscapes and beaches) and Senegal is just a few miles away.

Chez Helena/Cau de Fatima is a little peaceful paradise; good basic rooms, a very hospitable host (Fatima) and an excellent cook (great Italian dishes and fresh seafood)! The eucalyptus forest and a large, beautiful and abandoned beach is only a 10 minutes drive away. If you are in Guiné-Bissau you must visit this place

Awesome place run by Fatima and her husbond franco. There is no better place for star gazing and listening to the sounds of the tropics than this.

There is just one Aparthotel in Varela and it is the only place to find a restaurant: Chez Helene. It certainly is worth the bad road (unpaved 56 kilometer from Sao Domingo, it takes about 2 hours and you better have a good car). When you meet Fatima, the owner, you will relax and enjoy your stay. The rooms are...
