This is a good standard of lodge on a small reserve where orphan animals are housed The style of the lodge is very interesting with smaller chalets for two people and also larger family units scattered around the reserve. A good place to see animals that are difficult to see in the wild but its only a zoo in reality...

This was a different sort of experience and a different sort of accommodation. Because it is, as I understand it, a non-profit project, one cannot expect the highest standards that most safari lodges maintain these days. Yet, the basics are in place: comfortable beds, large rooms, hot water. But at almost 10 years old, the rooms are due for major...

I usually try to enjoy everything at the fullest when traveling, trying also to always consider that sometimes you cannot expect things to be similar to those at home. That's the beauty of it. Well, every time we've been in Africa we have found amazing and happy people. I don't know why but when we arrived at Windhoek airport in...

We enjoyed our stay here. The rooms are separate chalets, with an earth vibe, long stone bench supporting the sinks, wooden shower screen etc. I liked the sunken shower arrangement. The food was tasty, well prepared and nicely presented. The staff were very friendly and attentive. Location is great, less than an hour from the airport, easily accessed on good quality...

Unfortunately we only spent one night here on our 3 week trip, it was our last night and a perfect way to end an amazing trip. Beautiful little lodges - the interiors are amazing! Restaurant was great and all staff lovely. We had pre-booked the Behind the Scenes tour in advance and it was well worth it, Marlice is lovely...

Lodge: amazing accommodation and restaurant, worth a stop, book in advance. Sanctuary: I spent many weeks here as a volunteer. Overall it's an amazing opportunity and experience and the staff are passionate and dedicated. This season, in MY opinion, they have been very greedy and the number of volunteers is excessive and made the experience at times feel like a...

Thank you so much for your detailed review and constructive insight. We enjoy hearing different perspectives, especially in the complex world of conservation. The more opinions we hear, the better, as a concrete method of conservation unfortunately just doesn't exist. Of course we have based our conservation strategies on years of experience - but that does not by any means...

We wanted to stay at this lodge because we were keen to see the San people who are camped nearby. We did the lodge's Ancient Skills tour in the afternoon and went again in the evening to sit around the campfire with the San family there. Our guide had some San blood in him and could translate our questions and...

Naankuse is a truly special place. It is a massive wildlife sanctuary located about 50 km east of Windhoek, about a 30 minute drive from the international airport. The property features a lodge, six free standing cabins adjacent to the lodge, and a number of very large multi bedroom, private villas sprinkled throughout the reserve. Meals are taken at a...

Marlice Van Vuuren, the founder and inspiration for the Na'ankuse operation is a beautiful and inspirling figure. Staying at the lodge could just be a lark, a few days of hanging out with wild animals or it could be an opportunity to examine the ethical issues of the interactions between wild animals and people. That's what it was for us....

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The N/a’an ku se Lodge & Wildlife Sanctuary is near the Airport and central Windhoek, on a 3.200 hectare big reserve. We offer Carnivore Feeding Tours, Bushman stories and stargazing dinners, Cheetah experiences and a “Behind the Scenes with Marlice” tour. Choose to stay in one of our six individual chalets or one of our eight exclusive holiday homes. We offer a dining area with award-winning cuisine, stunning views, bar and swimming pool. A delightful blend of rich ethnicity and modern luxury. The N/a’an ku se Lodge is the only Charity Lodge in Namibia, all profits from our lodge are returned back to our charitable projects. N/a’an ku se supports the local San community and activities are led by the local San. Volunteers looking to help with conservation can join the Volunteer Program offered on the N/a’an ku se Wildlife Sanctuary. The program offers volunteers the rare and exciting opportunity to work closely with and actively participate in the conservation of African wildlife. Volunteers can stay from 2 weeks to 3 months and will have the unique experience to care for our wildlife including a number of lions, leopards, cheetahs, wild dogs, caracals and baboons and many more, kept at the Sanctuary because they can unfortunately not be released into the wild again. Both experiences will leave you with great memories of Namibia while aiding in our conservation efforts which better the lives of the local San Bushmen and our animals. The N/a’an ku se Lodge & Wildlife Sanctuary is the ideal place to stay at the beginning or the end of your journey through Namibia. ... more   less
