So..... I visited Khartoum 21 October 2015 having arrived on the bus from Egypt. (Backpacking Africa). We arrived late afternoon, on a street somewhere in the city, and since I had befriended a charming lady from Eritreia who was working as a Doctor in the city, I let her take control of the situation, to help me find the Khartoum...

After half an hour wondering aroung trying to find this place, we finally came across the yellow building. The happyness of finding the hostel only lasted some seconds. As soon as we asked for acommodation the two receptionist limited themselves to say "no" and didn't even stop looking at their phones. We asked again about camping spots and they said...

Cheap and the staff are nice. (As are all Sudanese. ) But the place is filthy. Stayed two nights because the gardens are nice before moving to a hotel. Not even a spoon is available in the kitchen and only one burner on the hot plate.

I waited 3 hours for anyone to arrive who was willing to help me. When the manager arrived he could not find a pen to take down my information. He showed me to a room where the lock did not work. He then grabbed the bedding off a bed and took me to another room which had not been cleaned...

The Youth Hostel (HI affiliated) is cheap and in a decent location with good bus connections to the alien registration (near the university) and downtown. We arrived without a booking and - after pretending to be husband and wife - were given our own private dorm on the upper floor. The second night we got to move to a triple...
