I want to start by saying that The Pema wasn't on our itinerary. We happened to drive past it on one of our city excursions on day 2 of our Bhutan vacation and something about the luxurious and warm aesthetics of the place got us checking their website out when we returned to our hotel that night. We were particularly interested in their in-house spa. so the next day, we walked in to enquire and walked out with a reservation for 1 day and 1 night. And boy, was that one of the best decisions ever!!! To say that the staff are amazing still would be an understatement! They went over and beyond in very aspect of their service. i want to specifically mention Melam at the front desk. She is a true asset to the property. She diligently followed up with us regarding our booking over whatssap and kept us posted on all updates until we checked in. We were delighted to be given the junior suite - the living room has one wall made up entirely of floor to ceiling windows offering up a 180 degree view of the Thimphu valley. We couldn't help letting out squeals of delight as we took the collective beauty in.(yes, the breathtaking views bring out the child in you) The stunning views from where we sat sipping our cups of steaming hot tea kept us glued to the couch for a pretty long time. The rooms are done up with modern and elegant decor. We were greeting with some delicious hot beverages and a gift bag from OGOP (be sure to look it up) containing organic produce from the farms of Bhutan. The beds are heated (optional) and the feeling is one of decadence no matter which part of the suite you find yourself in. They have 3 restaurants and a roof-top bar that offerings seating both in-house and outside. Their cocktails are splendid and the food just fabulous! I am still blown over by the very generous portions of everything we ordered. I found that quite consistent wherever we ate at in Thimphu, Punakha and Paro tbh. We signed up for the signature ritual in their spa which is a combination of singing bowl therapy and a head to toe massage with herbal oils. They had plenty of other options to choose from as well. There is a fully-equipped gym as well for those who need a quick workout. The hotel is less than 10 mins away from the eateries and pubs and karaoke bars and makes it super convenient to get to and from nearby places. We opted for room service for breakfast the next morning and tucked into some excellent continental breakfast. Hundreds of pictures and a gorgeous 24 hrs later, we checked out to head to Paro. This property is sheer splendour!

My husband and I lived in Thimphu for more than three years, and The Pema was one of our favourite places - if not our one favourite place - to go for dinner or a Sunday afternoon coffee. The Pema has a great choice of delicious, not too sweet pastry (we can especially recommend the options based on chocolate). For dinner, we mostly went for Indian food. It might be a bit pricier than elsewhere, but you get the best Naan in town and Dosa on Thursdays and Sundays. Or we had the salads - maybe only the ones at Mountain Café and Your Café in Paro are better. Food quality in Bhutan is hardly ever consistent, The Pema, however, is a positive exception, at least most of the time ;-) There are some tables to sit outside and the nice, if sometimes windy, rooftop terrace usually opens at 1 pm. They also offer an outstanding home delivery service. Staff at The Pema is well-trained and very attentive - a rare treat in a "regular" (meaning, not five-star) establishment in Bhutan. But the disruptions in the tourism and hotel industry and people leaving for greener (Australian) pastures also impacted The Pema: we noticed quite some familiar faces gone and inexperienced, less confident staff replacing them. But we are sure that as long as the dedicated and highly-professional F&B Manager Bishnu stays, they will quickly be brought up to The Pema's standards. And, I also wouldn't want forget mentioning their wonderful hotel rooms and Spa - which we haven't tried for ourselves but heard a lot of very good things about. So, all in all, if you are in Thimphu, you definitely shouldn't miss stopping by this place - be it for a meal or just a coffee, or maybe even to stay for the night.

Great room with nice view, delicious food and a cute dog. Staff was also warm and very helpful too. I had very relaxing time there. Just one thing to be noted, the location is at a slightly higher place; when taking a stroll to town, you would need to walk back up. (not a big issue, take that as exercise!)

Perfect place A very good clean and nice hotel. Staff is very friendly and helpful. The restaurant is brilliant the chef was ready to fix the food with less spices according to my request and the food was delicious best I had in long time. There is a coffee shop at the hotel by the number of locals who come to buy cakes there I think it is the busiest in Bhutan. Breakfast is served in that coffee shop but takes a long time to be served. Except to that it is a perfect place.

We will always remember your time with us due to the most memorable and blessed events that took place during that period. Therefore, thank you immensely for your heartfelt review. A touch of luxury arriving in Bhutan! Lovely large room with courtesy fruit and treats and everything required to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. There is a spa in the basement, which I didn't have time to use, but I particularly loved the rooftop terrace area with bar and snack facilities open to the sunshine. I ate in the bistro cafe rather than the dining hall - small, friendly and quirky with a good menu choice for myself, a vegetarian, and a relaxing place to take breakfast with an outside area. I would certainly recommend to fellow travellers to Thimpu.
