I feel the last comments were very unfair. the huge lobby was dated but bell boys were dressed smartly to carry luggage, found all receptionist very efficient especially the older lady who might have been the head who called our next destination on Samui for them to pick us up. Rooms were clean although a bit shabby plenty hot water,fridge...

We were booked into this hotel by an agent in Samui who used to work as an agentin Bangkok (some 20 years ago). Apparently our agent hasn't been back to the hotel in 20 years! It was nothing short of disgusting! Ants in the bedding, water dripping from the bathroom light fixtures, mouldy smelling room and generally a VERY unkempt...

I loved this hotel. It is clean, the staff are very helpful and very polite. The rooms are clean and comfy. It has a great location, very close to the grand palace and khao san road. I think it is very cheap to stay here aswel, it works out around 1800BHT which is around £20 and who can complain with...

DO NOT STAY HERE. very overpriced and much cheaper better rooms avaliable on khao san road and near by. staff very rude and unhelpful. Rooms (even in new wing) tatty and old fashioned. They also ripped us off 500B. Terrible hotel.

OK, maybe the previous 12 nights at the Anantara in Hua Hin had spoiled us, but aside from the location (you could not get closer to the Grand Palace etc.) this hotel is old and tatty and a real let-down if it's your point of departure from Bangkok. The incredibly busy lobby area, which has something pre-1989 eastern bloc about...

It is and feel like a hotel, with a reception and a large lobby. It is rather cheap, even affordable by backpackers. It has a pool, clean rooms with some character and decent bathrooms. It is walking distance from Kao Sarn Road, giving access to the huge array of shopping, restaurants, internet cafes etc. It is walking distance from the...

My partner and I stayed for 4 days in Bangkok before going on to Koh Samui. The hotel is shabby, in need of a makeover etc but you get what you pay for, it's cheap. There is a new wing which is much nicer but when we asked the reception staff if we could get a room there they just...

Good location at low price. The room was ok. Not too big and not too small. The breakfast was superb. The pool was clean. In short, a good place to stay. Things that I didn't like were tout taxi drivers just the exit from the hotel. The prices are at least double of the normal price. Just ignore them, walk...

Royal Hotel is in quite an ideal location (very close to Khao San Rd, Grand Palace..) however I found the staff were very rude! Being travel agents and actually selling this hotel to our customers we got 3 complimentary nights + a travel agent discount for 3 extra nights. We got 3 breakfast cupons - only for the 3 nights...

Ideally situated hotel but a bit tired and shabby, actually stayed at start of tour and end of tour and room in new wing was far better than in the main hotel which was in need of a makeover. It is within walking distance of a great number of attractions and is not expensive, but the rooms and communal areas...

Staying in Banglamphu

Neighbourhood Profile
Banglamphu
While you’ll see skyscrapers in most parts of Bangkok, it’s the gilded roofs of ancient pagodas that adorn the skyline of Banglamphu, the city’s historical and most touristic district. Hordes of tourists flock to this area to tick quite a few must-see attractions off their to-do list, with the Grand Palace being the most spectacular of them all. Banglamphu is also home to Bangkok’s infamous tourist ghetto, centered around Khao San Road. Visit at night to feast on road-side pad thai, cheap beers and if you’re up for it, some dancing fueled by buckets of Thai whiskey.
