This was the most expensive place I stayed in Thailand... and the lowest quality. We had to switch rooms twice because the air con just stopped blowing cold. The rooms are spacious but that's about the extent of it's positive qualities.

Stayed here for 3 nights and it served its purpose. It was very handy for the Khaosan road and had plenty cafes etc around about for eating and drinking. It was within a reasonable walk to the water boats which was we found was the best way of getting around. Room was clean and functional. As per other posts the...

The Viengtai has been around a long time, and its proximity to Khao San Rd is both an advantage and a disadvantage, as the bars and noise are creeping closer year by year as the entertainment area expands. The pool is old and does not hold up against more modern hotels. The rooms are OK, and the beds comfortable, the...

I return to this hotel a few times each each over the past 3 years. It's a no frills accommodation right in the heart of great food, little bars, internet options, washing ladies, great massage., You will not pay a fortune for this place so it is not going to be a lux room. The decore is a dated and...

We stayed here in 2007 and decided to come back two years later for the one night we had in Bangkok to kick off our Thailand holiday. The hotel is reasonably priced and although the rooms aren't incredibly fancy, they are clean, comfortable, airconditioned and a nice reprieve from a long day out in the city of Bangkok (as is...

Great location, 1 block from Khoa San Road. Internet was very expensive. Breakfast was not worth paying extra for, there are many good restaurants in the area. Walking distance to the Palace and the river. Great massage place just down the block, called Rainbow Silver, no need to negotiate, 1.5 hours for 500 Bhat. Beware of taxi drivers who want...

Stayed here for one night as departure point for the Intrepid tour. I had avoided staying here originally as I was told it would be about $70/night and I thought I could find better value elsewhere. The location is certainly good if you prefer the backpacker/Western tourist mosh pit of Khao San Road. But apart from being close to Khao...

When you pay around 2000 baht for a room in Bangkok, you expect a certain standard. This hotel does not come anywhere close to meeting that level. Yes the rooms were clean and tidy but that is where it stops. It has the same amount of charm as a budget airport motel anywhere in the world. The decor was bland...

I stayed at the Viengtai as part of my intrepid trip, one night at the start and then another at the end. I really loved the hotel. It was in a great location, great prices and the staff were very friendly. You have to keep in mind that this is a 3 star hotel, so you cannot have expectations of...

Stayed here as part of a package with Intrepid tour company. I liked that they had water on the 5th floor to refill water bottles. Beds are VERY soft if you like that kind of thing. Location is one street over from Khao San, centrally located in backpacker haven and within walking distance of the Grand Palace. Others raved about...

Staying in Banglamphu

Neighbourhood Profile
Banglamphu
While you’ll see skyscrapers in most parts of Bangkok, it’s the gilded roofs of ancient pagodas that adorn the skyline of Banglamphu, the city’s historical and most touristic district. Hordes of tourists flock to this area to tick quite a few must-see attractions off their to-do list, with the Grand Palace being the most spectacular of them all. Banglamphu is also home to Bangkok’s infamous tourist ghetto, centered around Khao San Road. Visit at night to feast on road-side pad thai, cheap beers and if you’re up for it, some dancing fueled by buckets of Thai whiskey.
