This is no hotel, it's a basic backpackers hostel. On that basis it's a decent place to stay. We had a double fan room which cost less than five pounds a night. It's pretty much four walls, a fan, mesh windows and a bed. For the cost you can't expect anymore and most importantly it was reasonably clean. With no...

Stayed here for just the one night and whilst it is only 500 Baht the place is very basic. Staff are OK but I wouldn't say more than that. Don't think I will go back.

I've been to this place several times. The rooms are really basic but are clean. The beds are really hard and there are no blankets, but then again, you don't pay a lot either. The food in the restaurant is good and not too expensive. There is no Wifi, but if you sit in the corner near the reception you...

i couldn't believe the price in this area (160b for a shared bathroom single), also cant believe how my polish neighbours could pay 550b, i've seen the double rooms as well, and i would just put in extra 200b and went next door to a perfect new siam II. Anyway the single room had fan, was clean, no bugs, 2...

If you just have few days in Bangkok and want to spend them in the most alternative area in the city, this place is perfect. Near to everything, very cheap and very clean. The jazzclubs and ska-place is just around the corner. Its very very basic, the rooms feel like cells, but who cares?! You just going to sleep there....

During several days at the guesthouse we notified them that the one electrical outlet in room 124, an upscale AC room was broken. Also the shower wand leaked half the water from the tankless heater. They never fixed these items. When the overhead fan was run on high, dust balls dropped onto the bed. The staff was friendly but never...

I was very surprised that this guesthouse has such good reviews. Maybe it was just my room but this place was quite terrible. Yes the location and price is great however I don't think it is worth it at all. There ARE bed bugs, I woke up with a rash all over my shoulder. There was no blankets provided, no...

I've stayed at the New Merry V for many years on my travels in SE Asia. True, the beds are hard. True there is no charm to the accommodation. However, if you want a clean and functional room for the night, you can't beat the New Merry V. The airport bus will drop you on Phra Arthit Road as well,...

Inevitably independent travel in south east asia leads to some time spent in the Koh San Road area, and more often than not i end up staying at this guesthouse for several reasons. it's a short walk to Koh San Road but far enough away that i can avoid the nonsense if i chose to. it's very clean, quiet and...

Staying in Banglamphu

Neighbourhood Profile
Banglamphu
While you’ll see skyscrapers in most parts of Bangkok, it’s the gilded roofs of ancient pagodas that adorn the skyline of Banglamphu, the city’s historical and most touristic district. Hordes of tourists flock to this area to tick quite a few must-see attractions off their to-do list, with the Grand Palace being the most spectacular of them all. Banglamphu is also home to Bangkok’s infamous tourist ghetto, centered around Khao San Road. Visit at night to feast on road-side pad thai, cheap beers and if you’re up for it, some dancing fueled by buckets of Thai whiskey.
