The Shanti lodge is a very chill relaxed hidden oasis that offers a break from the crazy kata patong beach scene. When we arrived there was a mixup on our reservation but Kim the owner was great, she always makes it work which helped us recover from our long airplane journey. The main bonus/challenge is the location, it's off the...

650 bahts/night for a double room with bathroom (cold water) and fan. Located in Thewet, close to Chaoyang river (5 mins walk from stop no.15 for Express boat). The location is great, there is a bunch of guesthouse and lots of food in the street. You can also eat there, the food was pretty good! Almost 15 mins. walk from...

Can't find Shanti Phuket on Tripadvisor so we're leaving a review here. We've stayed at Shanti twice, 2007 and 2011, whilst travelling with our young daughters. We love the place, it's good value, beautifully set up and the restaurant serves food that both our (fussy) kids will eat. The Owner, Kim is just wonderful - she can't do enough to...

We landed in BKK at night and had reserved a room at Shanti ahead of time at no cost. The restaurant is fantastic, the staff is nice even though they dont speak much english and the rooms were clean. Dont expect anything fancy though. The bathroom and shower were outside and the beds were rock hard like the rest of...

I stayed in one of the nicer rooms on the third floor. There's a constant buzz of motorcycles... but I also did not use AC. Chances are if I did, it would have been fine-- but I hate AC. Earplugs definitely helped. Food is amazing... not cheap, but worth it.

This was our second stay at Shanti Lodge, and we were very happy to see that not too much has changed. There are a couple of things we really appreciate about Shanti Lodge - first, its a little bit away from the really touristy part of Bangkok (although only a short walk away), so the atmosphere is a bit more...

The hotel is being run as a family business. I think that sometimes the staff lose perspective that the customer is first. The accomodation could definiely use a lick of paint and a spring clean.

One of the things I really liked about Shanti Lodge, is that it's slightly away from the touristic parts of Bangkok. The hotel is located amongst a big community of Thai people, rather than being amongst the bars and nightlife of Bangkok. However, within a 15 minute walk, you can be in the bustle of tourism if you want to....

I have stayed at the Bangkok Shanti Lodge four times in the past three years, and every time it has been better than the last. Their food is to die for, especially their curries. You can get a killer massage for a reasonable price from one of their two excellent masseuses. They are located very close to the water taxis....

My wife and i stayed at the delightful Shanti Lodge during Feb 2011. We really enjoyed the natural, laid-back atmosphere, with the building clad in vegetation, in a quiet street with great street food away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The room was charming with a handmade ethnic feel to it. Staff were friendly and gave a...

Staying in Dusit

Neighbourhood Profile
When wandering around the Dusit Palace grounds, you'd almost forget you're still in a Southeast-Asian city. The Renaissance-style buildings and leafy gardens wouldn't be out of place in an European capital, and the serenity here is in stark contrast with the chaotic city life outside of its complex walls. Dusit is one of Bangkok's oldest districts, and while the rest of Bangkok is modernising at a rapid pace, Dusit seems to have stood the test of time. Come here to find family businesses in traditional shophouses, small-scale local markets and streets unfazed by modern city life.
