We spent 3 nights in the shanghai mansion. Location isn't bad, although not as much to see in Chinatown as other parts of the city (but then you should already know that). Inside the decor is great and it looks incredible. However some serious points to consider; (1) Hotel rooms are predominantly inside the building with no external window (so...

Very different Bangkok experience form the typical Sukhumvit hotels. the Chinatown location is quirky, and the neighborhood quite lively, albeit with difficult access. The hotel itself is kind of fun and funky, yet quite comfortable and has an artsy feel. I was afraid of the noise level given how busy the street is , but found it very quiet indeed...

We originally booked for three nights but fell in love with this place so booked an additional night to fit in with travel plans. We arrived at night and all the staff were helpfull and welcoming, making it easier for us after a long journey. We got a double room with breakfast in a deal package, it was clean, perfectly...

We stayed at Shanghai Mansion since they were offering a special rate in the low season. For $40 it is fine, but not at the normal rate of over $100 a night. The offer didn't include breakfast so cannot comment on the restaurants or breakfast. The decor aims to replicate Shanghai in the 1920-30s so is cute. The building has...

This place can be hard to find with some cab drivers not really knowing where it is. I recommend taking a card of the hotel with address when you venture out, as it is a hidden gem!. Great little bar out the front, nice service, good clean rooms and bang in the middle of Chinatown. Exactly what I wanted.

It does not look so good when you arrive, but when you pass the reception you start to feel like in ancient Mama San house... Really love the rooms, spacious and colorful with a chinese decorations... Like a "mini suite"... Kig size bed, very nice and big bathroom with both bath and shower... I spent a very good time there.

Overall this hotel is acceptable but too expensive. The service staff look unhappy and do not take enough care about guest service. The rooms are spacious and clean but the fittings are a bit dated. Location is a little dark and could be a bit scary to a solo traveller. However the taxi driver I used was courteous and waited...

We decided to spend a night in Chinatown Bangkok as we wanted to explore the area more thoroughly. We knew we made the right decision to stay at Shanghai Mansion when we stepped into its lobby. From the main street, the hotel does not impress but the moment you enter the main doors, you will wonder if you are in...

If you're looking at another hotel in Yaowarat area, this is definitely the BEST around. It has coffee bean in front of the hotel and 7-11 on the corner, the lobby was really nice and has a free computer. The check in was quick, they give welcome drinks and cold towel, which is really nice. The staff was okay. Our...

This fab hotel is just so ideal in many ways. lovely character rooms, great service, amazing breakfast and a great place to stay to experience Chinatown. The bar in the evening which opens onto the street is a relaxing way to end the day. Within paces of amazing street food, a short walk to the golden buddah...well worth a visit,...

Staying in Chinatown / Yaowarat

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown / Yaowarat
Better known as 'Yaowarat' among locals, Chinatown is Bangkok's bustling district that never sleeps. During the day, the main street and its small alleyways are filled with a vibrant mix of colours, scents and flavours coming from the roadside restaurants and all-day markets. The real action, however, happens after sunset. Surrounded by neon lights, Thais and tourists alike flock here around dinnertime to feast on some of the best street food in town. Escape the chaos by venturing a little further from the main road and discover hidden shrines, friendly locals and daily life in its purest form.
