The place is nice and cozy, not in the center of tourists area, which is good. I like the traditional market around the hostel. If you want to see how real Thai people live, this is the place for you.
Really good stay at this guesthouse. The rooms are nice and clean, basic but with some nice features which make them feel a bit more special. The staff were really helpful and friendly. The cats were really cute in the cat cafe too! It’s a little noisy in the morning due to the school nearby and cars going by but it didn’t bother me too much. They could be a little more environmentally friendly by not replacing the plastic wrapped soap in the bathroom every day, I hadn’t used it all up! But all in all a really nice stay.
We loved our stay at Banilah! We had a wonderful welcome from the lovely staff, despite arriving early morning before they had opened. We were given a map and they talked through all the recommended places to visit and eat in Chiang Mai which was super helpful! Throughout our stay they were always around to answer any questions and would go out of their way to help us (helping to print our boarding passes, booking taxis, taking our laundry). They recommended a great app called Grab (like uber) which we hadn't heard of but used the whole time we were in Chiang Mai as it was much cheaper than the normal taxis. The rooms are basic but are cleaned & topped up with drinking water daily and have everything you will need. The location was great for us as you could walk into the old town in about 10-15 minutes but there was plenty of places to eat within a few minutes walk from Banilah. 10/10... the friendly staff made our stay so great. Could not have asked for any more! …
Did the no AC room bc it was a “special” 300 baht vs 550 baht for AC. Wouldn’t be that bad except the only option the gave me was room 1, bottom corner near road. Barking dog/weird noise/old lady yelling at all weird hours. Large roach in bathroom. Lots of cracks so mosquitos get in. All concrete, not seeing the renovations they mentioned. It’s not the worst place I’ve been to, but these reviews hype it up too much. I think it should have been a bit cheaper. Office/main quarters closed 8pm-8am. Owner makes a great iced late. There are cats all over the inside lounge on leashes. Not everyone’s thing, just be aware. They are mostly nice. But yeah, I asked to see more rooms by the first employee I found and was just thrown into the worst one and told it was the special rate, even though I could find the same thing online. Granted, my fault for only knowing English. The thing is, it’s become preferred to do things online versus in person with cash I guesthouses, which baffles me. The redeeming factor in this experience is that the owner showed up with several maps and GREAT info and recommendations. I hate to give a bad review bc the money I spent on the room was worth her maps. But still, the pictures others are posting on here do not tell the whole story. …
Lovely Boutique Guesthouse Banilah is my fevorate place to stay in Chiangmai Thailand. Super convenient and comfortable just walk 5 minute to the Market a lot of foods and shopping area easy to get TukTuk or Taxi is really absolutely place and great location the price is perfectly
We’ve stayed at Banilah many times and are always happy to return. The staff are the best and will help you with anything you need. Renting a motorbike is easy, as they call and the bike is delivered to you from an outside company, passport required. Laundry service is also easy and affordable, just a few shops away. The new coffee at the cafe is delicious, shhh ;) We look forward to our return next time in CM.
Great place to stay visiting Chiangmai! Staff are so helpful, with great local advice on places to go, how to get there, and of course places to eat! Also made booking any trips or activities so easy. Would highly recommend to anyone travelling through Chiangmai!
If you don't mind a non-AC room and a hostel type room then this is a great stay. The staff was extremely helpful in helping us get around the city. They mapped out everything for us and told us exactly where to go and where not to go.
I cannot say enough good things about this hostel. It’s quirky decor and homely feel are just delightful. Location is pretty good too - just outside the old city. But by far the best thing about this hostel is the staff. One lady in particular (unfortunately I can’t remember her name!) was wonderful. She spoke fantastic English and gave us several maps, explaining each in great detail. She gave us tips on where to go, how to plan our days and where to eat (Woo restaurant - amazing!). So friendly and we really felt she went above and beyond to help. For example, we had booked to stay overnight in the Elephant Nature Park and we were allowed to leave our bags there overnight to save us taking them with us. We have stayed in many other places in Asia and this was by far the best - we were actually sad to leave! Chiang Mai is such a beautiful place and we would love to return. Should we do so, we will be staying in Banilah! Thanks so much! …
Pro Good value Excellent greeting and briefing on local restaurants, resources, geography etc Capable, helpful and enthusiastic staff Quite clean Good local resources, excellent breakfast place, hairdresser, laundry, seven eleven within steps Free bikes, very useful (though you get what you pay for in terms of quality) Cats, lots of cats Con A little far from old city, about a km to the wall a bit of a hike though ok on bike Beds were very hard, springs were visible and palpable, they need to invest in new mattresses Our room was at back in ground floor, no natural light. Not quite what you see in the pics.
