We spent four nights at 137 Pillars and thoroughly enjoyed it. Toto was our Butler, and he made himself useful in many ways. In part it was helpful to have him as an intermediary with other staff who were less fluent in English. The room...More
We enjoyed a three night stay here in a Rajah Brooke Suite at the end of Jan 2018. The hotel is calm, quiet and beautiful. The heated pool was fantastic. A welcome oasis in the centre of busy Chiang Mai. Our room was very comfortable...More

We tipped housekeeping daily (since who makes up your room could change each day) - don't remember how much ($5?), but guidance was provided beforehand by our travel agent. Didn't think we'd have any use for a butler, and hardly used the one provided @ the Intercontinental in Danang, but "Toto" was so wonderful that we wrote to his manager to commend him after we returned (& left him a very good tip). He would appear w/things we didn't know we needed (i.e., a bag of supplies to take to the Elephant Sanctuary) & actually enrolled us in the airlines' frequent flyer program so that we wouldn't incur excess weight charges! If you are lucky enough to have him, give him our very best (Tom & Delene from San Francisco). LOVED Chiang Mai & 137 Pillars!
