It’s one of my favorite hotels if I see a price below 15$ . It’s a decent option but one of many in chiang mai. I had a water heater with just 3 temperature settings which always had not my desired temperature available. Depending on which room you got a quite night is secured.

Grim. Tired but spacious room. Poor lighting; couldn’t see most of the room. Dirty bathroom. Comfortable beds and pillows. Noisy location. Pool looked dirty. Reception area was nice / and deceptive. Thankfully I only there for one night. Had a lovely hotel in the old town before moving here but they couldn’t fit us in for the last night. Highly recommend De Klang Vieng - no pool or breakfast but gorgeous spotless room.

Good older style hotel in quiet location. Nice pool. Good breakfast buffet. Hard beds but tolerable. Fine quality linen and towels and lots of hot water. Jug supplied but no coffee. Fridge in room. Good size rooms and good tv and cable movies. Walk to night bazaar and plenty of cafes and bakery in area. A quality old girl still comfy and very clean. Elevator is a bonus. 300m to 7:11 on main road to left.

I am glad they renovated and reactivate this old lady of chiang Mai hotel scene. All fine with me - there is room for improvement but I happily overlook it. That’s from now on and if they can keep the price around 10$ again my place to stay. Breakfast and even a pool is provided.

The Hotel was just recently opened after a good year of renovation under a new ownership. It has now a small swimming pool (next to the old restaurant, that will be opened in the near future) Because of the current lack of a restaurant, there is only a breakfast menu available. It can be ordered (extra cost) at the reception and to be picked up there or by room service only during provided morning time. The entrance hall and reception welcomed its guest with Thai style decoration and plenty of plants. The rooms are spacious and friendly (even the table is covered by a table cloth) and vary by the different rates due to the standard, what means the number of beds and then only by the view (temple, mountain or city view). The rooms are decorated almost all in the same style. Coffee and tea making facility with coffee and tea bags is standard. Spacious bathroom with hot shower, but only cold water at the normal washbasin. Toilet amenities are provided. In my case the water heater served only handwarm water, so after a complaint and no possibility to get it repaired, they changed it to a new one. Due to the process of still upgrading, not all planned facilities are currently available. The staff is very friendly, alert and always tries to help with your needs. Specially Situ at the reception is very active. Due to the upgrade on all levels, one may find during the stay some new facilities that are currently not avbl./provided. The entire building is under a steady process of upgrading and it is plannend to reach the four star level. Sometimes you may have difficulties to find or use things, because currently no English translation is placed next to the Thai labels. I liked my stay because of the quiet location an the reach of the most important places (like the Tapae Place and the old city, as well as the Night market street) what can be reached only in a few minutes walk. I would definitely stay in that hotel again.

Hotel is closed as of January 2019, new owner renovating.... Not answering email or phone calls. No opening date. Plenty of other options in Chiang Mai even in high season so look elsewhere. Nearest budget is "Ghee House". Nearest better option is "Mandala House". Nearest posh option (!) is "Studio 99".

I stayed at Tapae Place Hotel on a recent trip to Chiang Mai. The hotel was old and worn. Check in was without problem. During my stay, I left my key (old style, not key card) at the front desk. Upon return, there was no one at desk. Eventually a woman came out of restaurant where it seemed staff were eating lunch, TV was a small old CRT style, not flat screen. Bed was comfortable but everything was just so old. No safe in room. Price was good which is the only reason I gave 3 and not 2. I wouldn't stay again.

I've stayed here many times, the location is the best in Chiang Mai. There are numerous restaurants nearby, and you can walk through the sois to wherever you want to go. The rooms are comfortable if a little dated, unfortunately the bathrooms are more than a little dated but everything works OK. As others have mentioned there are better options for breakfast locally. I found the receptionists helpful, especially Minie, who works most days, she went out of her way to make sure I had a reliable lift to the airport at the height of songkran.

Could be very nice if they sorted out the hot water and upgraded the breakfast. Mind you having looked forward to the breakfast buffet, we were told quite rudely it wasn't included in our rate. Then we thought we would pay 100B each for it, until we went in and checked it out, yuck! walked along the street and found somewhere. Good points though, good location, nice big rooms, wifi that works, air con that works well an there is a kettle, no tea or coffee but a kettle! Don't get laundry done at the hotel for 80B, just along the laneway you can get same day service for 40B.
