The Hotel Shuktara markets itself as a luxury business budget hotel, which is a very apt description. While applying for my visa on arrival, the officials insisted on keeping my printed hotel reservation, so make sure to print it twice! Even without the hardcopy, I had no problem checking in, and was warmly received.

My room was modern & looked nice, with funky blue lights. It featured a sitting area, a minibar and sufficient closet space. The bathroom was small, but functional. The biggest drawback was the WiFi, which didn't work most of the time. Even when it did work, it was excruciatingly slow and basically unusable. I quickly resorted to buying a local SIM card. Even without WiFi, the Hotel Skuktara offers great value for money.

Hotel Shukhtaka accepted my non-refundable booking from Hotels.com yesterday, and today I found out they were closed. Why did they accept the booking money if they could not accommodate us. I was very offended by this behaviour, I expect a full refund.

After spending all my visits in Dhaka at the Pan Pacific i decided to take a risk on this relatively new hotel in Farmgate and very glad i did. Stayed for 4 days and then another 2 days post a St Martins/Cox Bazaar trip. It is well located, very close to Agora Supermarket which sells a lot of snacks from the US/UK and the huge Basundhara Shopping Cine complex. Very friendly staff, smooth check in/out and excellent value for money. Breakfast is basic but enough to set you up for a day of exploring or work. The Hotel Operations Manager, trained in Leicester, England and was very welcoming and open to feedback. If you are looking for a budget-mid price hotel with great service then this is the place to stay in Dhaka. Andrew

Recently i stayed in the Hotel , as recommend by one of my colleague . The Hotel looks decent from outside and is located at Farmgate , beside Tezgaon college .
Must say that the staffs are really hospitable and nice.
The room was good , decent and clean. The wifi was strong too.
The hotel has a rooftop restaurant.
but the location is great , and you can find many eateries nearby . The location is mostly visited by youth and commuting to all locations from the hotel is easy.
the Basundhara Mall is also near to the hotel.
The Hotel serves Complementary breakfast , but the options were to less and average.
Overall a decent hotel within budget in a good location.
Special Thanks to Mr Jahid .

So for three stars, expectations aren't high but arrival was smooth, room was clean and bed comfortable but ... and here it comes. While the concierge and reception staff were extremely helpful the same couldn't be said for those in the restaurant.
In fact the person on duty for breakfast was downright surly and unhelpful.
As I say for three stars expectations are never high, but a smile and a welcome would have helped. There was no fruit, dry or fresh, no cereal and out of the five dishes the only option which appealed to my western palate was some unappetising congealed fried eggs. The other four dishes had the appearance of chilli filled casserole-style food for breakfast.
Coffee was instant and powdered which I had to serve myself once I'd navigated my way around the hot water dispenser. There was no milk other than powdered variety.
Had I been in some remote town or village this might have been understandable but this was Dhaka, the capital!
That evening in the restaurant most of what was offered on the menu wasn't available and those dishes that were did not resemble the photographs on the menu. Our waiter explained that's because the photographs were there more for decoration than a true reflection of the food served!
I ordered a chicken chowmein-style dish and, to be fair, it was tasty so I had the same the next day but chose the seafood alternative this time. Again the meal was tasty and plentiful. With a little bit of attention to detail, training in customer service and hospitality, and some simple additions to make the breakfast range more extensive and appealing would not take huge steps. But it would make all the difference.

This was my first trip to Dhaka, and the booking was done by a friend of mine. On arrival, the staff was very helpful, and the check-in time was under 2 mins, so full points for first impression. The location of the hotel is great, though its in a bit of crowded area called Farmgate (adjacent to Tejgaon college), the location makes it the best choice as you have Gulshan, Banani on one side, and Motijheel, Karwan Bazar, Dilhkusa on the other, making it a great choice if you are there for business as most of the business areas are equidistant from this hotel.

My total stay was for 8 nights, and on the first day I had bit of difficulty in connecting to the hotel wifi as the signal in my room was bit low, but they installed a wifi repeater in my room, and the problem was solved.

2 things that I would want the hotel to improve on is their buffet breakfast and payment. The breakfast was the same throughout my stay which contained bread, jam (unfortunately they don't serve butter), poached eggs, puri sabji and some egg noodles, which gets boring after 2 days. Choice of juice is also limited to only 1 option of canned orange juice which they serve everyday..so I would want them to improve on their breakfast. The other area is that their online system locks your room and you cant enter the room after 12 noon if you haven't paid for the next day, which they accommodate by revalidating your access card, but for that, you have to go to the reception.

The staff is very friendly, and well trained to handle international guests.

I will recommend this hotel for business and family trips.

It’s a well run place. The room is nice and clean. The location is good to. Be aware that the Deluxe Rooms are facing the street. So if you want to have a quite on take the normal rooms - which are fine as well.

With this price tag, this is the best thing you can get in Farmgate or the center of Dhaka. The hotel rooms are clean and staffs are very polite. They have good food at their rooftop restaurant as well.

I only stayed here from evening to of one day then had to leave following morning. Just needed a bed to go sleep on for the night (with AC) and shower. Since I only needed such basic stuff, £30 may seem quieter steep for some unless you want quality hotel experience. Next time I'm in Bangladesh, I'll consider a single bedroom flat from AirB&B which has AC.
