just about anywhere else in the world this hotel would be rated terrible. The rooms are small and not completly clean, the staff are fawlty towersish and the food in the restaurant is average at best.
However it does have an electricity generator to cope with Bangladeshs' frequent power outages is in a relativly nice area and the staff at least try.

Stayed here a total of 8 nights in Dec. 07. I paid less than $10 per night. This place is a tweener. It costs a little more than a backpacker would want to pay but it would try the patience of anyone even thinking about wanting a nice place.

You can chose between AC or nonAC rooms to save money. In Dec. there was no need for the former. All of the rooms have cable TV. There is no topsheet on the beds. The windows open so the laundry dries but there are no screens so the mosquitos come in. The rooms have a desk. The toilets are "high commode" i.e. western style. There is hot water and the shower is over a tub rather than the floor. The place is fairly dirty and the walls need a paint job badly.

There is a restaurant on the second floor that is open generous hours. The food wasn't great but it was cheap. I always had a cup of coffee and a plain, two-egg omelet in the morning for 60 Taka - about 90 cents.

The hotel takes credit cards. It has a dial up internet computer in the lobby that costs too much for Dhaka - 50 Taka/hour but is convenient.

I thought the front desk and restaurant staff were extremely helpful and friendly. They were happy to store my bag when I went up country. They have a connection with Bangladesh Expeditions which can book trips for you. If you do connect with BE, the best thing you could arrange for would be to have Mamun take you to his home village 2 hours out of town. You stay at his parents' compound with the chickens and ducks. The walks to and around the neighboring villages were a high point of my Bangladesh trip.

The location was not far from Old Dhaka but you'd still want to take transport to get there. There is a great little alleyway for walking around a block to the west of the hotel and across the main drag. The hotel is also close to the steamship office and the post office.

The reception looks nice and some of the staff are friendly and speak English. The room was really dirty and under the bed was heaps of trash, TV didn't work, van was loud and it seemed all a little wet. The bathroom was terrible, lots of hair, broken things and it was dropping down from the ceiling. The people working in the restaurant are very unprofessional but the food is actually tasty and cheap. Just sometimes we got belly problems from it. The location is great but the price is rather high for Bangladesh. As there isn't much other choice in Dhaka, this place can be good for backpackers.

Hotel Pacific is a good choice for budget-conscious travelers looking for a safe and clean enough room. I stayed in the cheapest room (full size bed, with a fan and connected bathroom). The room was adequate for one person. Water was hot in the mornings. It's very centrally located and next to major roads, which makes it a bit noisy, but every hotel in central Dhaka in this price range is similar in this way.
Raad the hotel director, and his staff were very attentive and proactive in making sure that I had a comfortable stay, even helping me research unique things to do around Dhaka require local knowledge to identify. Thanks!

I booked this hotel because it was the only one with a website. Don't do the same mistake.
The room was hot, unclean and with mold spots on the walls and ceiling. The sheets were missing and the mattress was dirty. I got surprised not to have bitten by bed bugs.

The staff has not been helpful because it canceled our airport pickup the day before we were leaving, saying us to take a bus from the airport. The reason was it was strike (hartal) that day.

The only good think was internet wifi in the lobby and a working elevator, but it's not enough to rate good an hotel. I was forgetting the loud screaming tv in the lobby 24h a day.

Thank you for expressing your review on this website. We are sorry that you had a negative experience during your stay. We do have some explanations as to your experience: Our room prices are quite fair as we are a budget hotel, and vary with different room types. We encourage all guests to see all the different types of rooms, before any check in. We suggest you choose an A/C room next time, as the Non A/C rooms can get hot during April. The room you stayed in, was most likely just became vacant, which explains why the sheets were not there at the time of your entry. The staff has done their duty, and provided the correct advice. Strikes make it too dangerous for our own Hotel transport to pick you up, and beyond our control. The Hotel does not guarantee airport pickup service. The television at the lobby is for the entertainment for all guests. We have repainted and upgraded most of our rooms. We hope you will return to stay with us again, so we can provide you a superior experience.

We do have some explanations as to your experience: Our room prices are quite fair as we are a budget hotel, and vary with different room types. We encourage all guests to see all the different types of rooms, and even other hotels, before any check in. Additionally, the room you stayed in, is our lowest type, and therefore does not get the highest quality sheets. We guarantee that the sheets are clean, even if the color is not perfect, for that particular room. Our staff are highly trained in offering suggestion and advice to travel or get anything in Dhaka. Perhaps there was some miscommunication in your requests? The room tip that you have offered, is for a hotel that is unlicensed and therefore not recommended by us or the Hotel Industry. All our A/C rooms have a complimentary English newspaper. We hope you choose to stay with us again to see the difference, next time you return to Dhaka.

I was staying in Hotel Pacific for 10 days and I want to rate the service provided by Hotel Pacific to me in this review. When I came to Bangladesh I was a bit unsure how I would be able to manage everything on my own without speaking Bengali and how to go around in Dhaka. It was great that I could talk with Mr. Shaik (Hotel Owner) several times before I arrived in Dhaka to arrange everything and address some questions to him beforehand. Also when arriving in the Hotel the motto was "relax, don't worry, we will help" and so it happened to me. Mr. Shaik welcomed me very friendly and we looked around the hotel while giving me some information. The staff at the reception and in the restaurant was also very friendly and gave me their best service. I had to extend my tourist visa and I was therefore seeking help at the reception. F.e.: Mr. Shaik who was about to leave helped me to fill out all the required documents, the staff at the reception translated addresses into Bengali for me and I could store my luggage at a save place when I was away for a few days. Therefore I am really thankful and will come back to Hotel Pacific next time.

I booked a room here based on an old Lonely Planet review of the hotel.

I do not have high standards when it comes to budget traveling, but the night I had at the Pacific was really bad. I got a non-AC room, which was extremely dirty and absolutely packed with mosquitos.

Even though it's cheap I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone. The people in the reception were nice, and there was wi-fi in the reception, but the room was bad.

We stayed here after 2 nights at Al Razzak down the road (which is lovely, and almost half the price but room's were booked). Pacific was much much worse. Not cheap by South Asian standards (double what we consider budget in india & rest of Bangladesh) and the rooms are horrible. Dirty sheets, cockroaches galore, no windows, shower not properly functional. Restaurant was passable. Staff were very rude. On our last day the receptionist was asked to book a taxi for us to the airport. He left, came back and said it would be 5 minutes. After 30, he had made no effort to find it other than secretly calling his friend with a private car who hounded us to go with him instead, for 8x the price...! After nearly an hour, I went out into the monsoon rains and found one myself in 5 minutes. I am not easily offended and yes I am used to cheap and shabby places (been working and travelling in india for 14 months). Genuinely don't stay here. Go to Al Razzak. It is much much better.

"The balcony is small, secure and vaguely alarming, with a view of the city waking up each morning. Alright, it's the financial district and the view isn't that great, but worth the extra euro! On Fridays, the kids play cricket in the street outside, grab a paper, cup of tea and enjoy spectating."
