First of all, If you have to go to the airport the next day I'd recommend staying in a hostel in Negombo or else you will have to take 2 buses or a long tuc tuc drive to get to the airport. This hostel is a great place to start of your journey in Sri Lanka. The staff is nice(mostly backpacker who got stuck working there) so they can give you some advice on Colombo and Sri Lanka. Bed are good, Mosquito net, a light, and lockers are all there. There is a big common room with couches, a kitchen, an outside area, and another room with a tv with movies and a table tennis table. There's a supermarket across the street and some restaurants nearby. Location can be a bit hard to find for tuc tuc's but if you got the location on a offline maps app( like maps.me) it shouldn't be too hard.

My wife and I stayed here during a Christmas Day. We met a lot of other backpackers who also stayed their. Shared drinks and stories with them. A very nice experience. The only problem we had was it was difficult for the tuk-tuk driver to find this place.

The location of the hostel is not easy to find. Even tuk tuk drivers had to get directions from us checking the map. There is a supermarket near the place. The hostel grounds are very nice however there is no air conditioning or big fans in the rooms just some very small fans near each bed and it made the rooms very very hot. There were also loads of mosquito. We would recommend skipping nights in Colombo and better go towards the seaside like Negombo or the South.
