This place looked modern and swanky on the website, however was anything BUT. Location is good - walking distance to all of the main attractions, however as a group of 4 females, we did not feel safe in this hotel. The doors to the rooms did not lock appropriately. Rooms were dirty and ill-kept, with hairs on the sheets, multiple...

me and my boyfriend spent 3 nights in this hotel and we had no problems. our room is clean, breakfast are very basic here but not bad. its also close to major attractions in Istanbul, it was cold when we went there so its really nice to walk around and there's a lot of good restuarants to dine or drink...

Told person at reception could they fix it,also hair dryer not working, and the lift have a mind of itsown, nothing was done, staff were not friendly, we were not happy with service. What is...

Good location close to the main sites and tram station. OK staff with 2 very nice people. Adequate breakfast. Rooms are small and not well maintainned. The back room windows have a view of a rather unkempt courtyard. Additional problems we had - the only lift broke down. There was noisy building work nearby which kept going late into the...

I learned about Hotel Kupeli in New York Times' traveler review and decided to make a reservation. I did an initial inquiry by e-mail and didn't get a response; a second e-mail did get a response and things went smoothly after that. The hotel was built in 2007 so everything is refreshingly new and clean. Our room was bright and...

we also felt duped by seth sherwood's "save or splurge: istanbul" article in the NY times (august 2009). kupeli was just another blah hotel with no character. granted, the rooms were clean, and the flat screen TV was kind of cool, but when in istanbul, i had no plans to spend my time in the hotel room, watching TV. service...

Quite a good hotel if you consider that in Istanbul hotel prices are higher than the rest of Turkey. The room was a bit small, the sink was broken and the WC was leaking at every flush. Breakfast in the average, the hotel and the rooms very clean and the staff was really helpful. The free parking available was an...

We were mislead to this tourist trap by an August 2009 "Save or Splurge" travel article in the New York Times. The rooms are ridiculously small and some of them have no view outside (and therefore no natural light). If you have any problem, the management will remain completely oblivious. The bath tub in our room sprung a leak during...

Even if you slightly beat the rack rate prices on this hotel by booking through a web retailer, don't bother. You haven't got a bargain and you will be able to find better hotels in the same location, next to the main tourist attractions in Istanbul, for the same price. The staff here are unhelpful, to say the least. They...

We were a group of 3 seasoned travellers who stayed at this hotel for a little over a week during the month of May, 2010. We picked this hotel based on a NY times article that featured Istanbul. Almost immediately the hotel began to show problems. Though we had arranged for the promised free pick up from the airport, we...

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighbourhood Profile
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
