The hotel was pretty average, and that's an overstatement. The rooms are very tiny and the breakfast isn't filling at all. My friends stayed in a room where to bathroom lock was broken, and the hotel wouldn't get it fixed even though we stayed for 8 days. All that being said, this is a pretty cheap hotel. When you're a...

Too expensive hotel with low standard! Too much noise from the bazaar out from morning to evening. Rather pay a little more and book hotel in Taksim area. Then you have the more modern hotel and good access to shopping centers and shops

The reviews I had read about this hotel were quite varied so I was pleasantly surprised with the Melita. I chose it because of it's location close to the Aksaray Metro Station and it's price. My room was small but quite adequate for one person. Everything worked and was clean. The hot water was strong and reliable. I found the...

This hotel has perfect location! Few minutes from Aksaray metro station, so directly from Ataturk airport you can take M1 metro line it will take you there! Ride is about 40 min, and best thing to do is to buy Istanbulkart at one of machines at the airport, fill it for about 20 lira and enjoy very well connected transportation...

With this hotel would have Anthony Melchiorri full of work. Dirty, disrupted, damaged, with first rain we had flood in the room through windows, so we must change room with another. Impossible showering because of broken handle for a shower, changing the handles for showering is obviously too expensive for hotel owners. However, avoid it and prefer to choose another...

This hotel has very convenient location at Aksaray. There is just 2-3 minutes to the metro station and the tram station also. And many lines buses passing nearby. It's around 2 km to the most famous historic sightseeings: Topkapi Palace, Saint Sophia, Blue Mosque, Yerebatan Cistern and so on. A hundred meters behind the hotel is a small, nice and...

Melita is a clean and ok place. The breakfast is fair, considering the price, the same is the hotel. The reason for us to recommend it, as we will do, is the optimal placement. It is situated 100 meters from the Aksaray station - the end station of the metro line directly from the airport. (It costs 3 lira the...

Bad things first: - hard to find - the area around is more of a poor, unclean suburb, but you may consider it exotic depending on what you re looking for - breakfast is a bit poor However: The staff is friendly and helpful The beds are comfy Its close to Aksray metro and tram stop, so you are midway...

to far from sultanahmed. From 10 pm, afraid to walk. Poor breakfast. The rooms are that small, that if you have a bigger lugage, you don't have where to put it. No english at recepcion. Nothing to do there, you have to walk to sultanahmet.. Grand bazar is at 1km.

Staying in Fener & Balat

Neighbourhood Profile
Fener & Balat
This sleepy and rather socially conservative area of Istanbul hosts a small but thriving Jewish community, the patriarchate of the Eastern Orthodox Church, and some of the most beautiful churches and Christian art in the world. Much of what’s most interesting to witness in Fener and Balat sits between the surviving ancient city walls of Constantinople and the serene shores of the Golden Horn. Despite the many splendid sights, historic attractions, stunning vistas, and warm Turkish welcome, the area remains largely unperturbed by the tourist trade that characterizes the atmosphere in nearby Sultanahmet and around the Grand Bazaar. Travelers that like to explore off the beaten track will reap big rewards for making the effort to visit this low-key part of town.
