I stayed in the pension portion of the establishment, which is less expensive than rooms in the hotel, so I was expecting a fairly bare bones room. I was amazed when I walked in and found it not only to be a substantial size but also quite tastefully decorated and absolutely IMMACULATE. The room (including the bathroom) were pristine and...

We arrived at this hotel on October 08 2010 in the middle of a torrential and prolonged downpour,The staff were very helpful and turned the heating on for us so that we could dry out,as we were soaked trough . They directed us to the restaurant around the corner (The meat house) were we had a good meal .The room...

This used to be a great place, but now they don't seem to care about their guests - even those who had stayed there many times years ago. My husband and I arrived late at night and were handed the key and told to carry our own luggage up two flights of stairs. The young man at the desk told...

We stayed at a couple places in Istanbul and this Pension was the best place by far for location, views (Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia) and value for money. The breakfast on the terrace is very nice & filling (Turkish style) and the views are great in the evening as well, free tea/luggage storage, clean rooms with towels and bedding...

I've stayed at the Side five times over the past ten years & have, obviously, always found it to be a most pleasant place to stay. Not expensive considering it's right in the centre of the Sultanahmet & so close to all the main attractions. The staff have always been most friendly &, with one exception, helpful - in particular,...

I found the Side to be clean and comfodable. I came across the rude staff member only once but just ignored him. The rest of the staff were great. The two brothers who own the place are very helpful and greet you with a smile and handshake. Breakfast was simple but decent. Breakfast is between 8:30 and 10:00 We had...

I stayed there over 10 years ago & it was basic but good. Now, it is SPOTLESS and tastefully decorated a la Turque. I stayed in the basement without a/c and a fan (but my own bathroom), and it was reasonable at night (and it was hot outside) . There was very little street noise. At 30euros a night you...

Having never been to Istanbul before, I have nothing to compare the Side Hotel against in terms of value for money (we paid about £61 per night in June 2010 for room 19). The hotel is quite basic, but perfectly clean and functional, although the colour scheme and lighting don’t provide much in the way of atmosphere. The rooftop terrace...

the good news: room number 9 in the pension was quite bright and cheerful. I was happy to be there. all of the people I met behind the reception desk were very nice... the bad news: ...except one, the cross-eyed, middle-aged man... I planned to settle my bill the night before an extremely early flight. He asked me to just...

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighbourhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
