Well located near the best Istanbul's Sultanahmet district has to offer-- Hagia Sofia, Blue Mosque, Hippodrome,Topkapi Palace, Grand Bazaar. The room was large and comfortable, the breakfast buffet very nice but best of all was that the staff was wonderful beginning with transfer from the airport -- a welcome service after a long flight. Helpful with suggestions for tours, where...

Istanbul was a fantastic experience, full of life, history and excitement. Gaye and Greg at the Ayosofya were both warm, easy going and extremely helpful with tips on places of interest and tours around Istanbul. They also helped with tours as we continued our trip around Turkey. Their staff could not be more pleasant. The neighbourhood of their hotel is an...

This is a fabulous small historic hotel in the heart of old Istanbul -- you can walk to most of the major attractions (Hagia Sofia, the Blue Mosque, the Hippodrome, Topkapi palace). The real treasure of this hotel, however, is the staff: they help you find your way, suggest places and outings of interest, and do everything to make you...

Ayasofya is in an excellent location in Old Town, Istanbul if you want to see the historic sites, visit The Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, the Cisten, the Roman and Byzantine walls of the city, and the Grand Bazzar. Greg and Gaye both speak English as a first language and are warm, friendly, and informative hosts. They know the sites, the...

The Australian managers of this clean and affordable hotel are quick to offer suggestions on what to see and provide maps on how to get around the convoluted streets of old Istanbul! As an older woman traveling alone in 2016 I felt quite safe and supported. I was asked daily by the staff about my success at site seeing and...

A friend and I stayed here for three nights. The location is close to everything (5 minutes from Sultanahmet), though you are at the bottom of a hill. Good news is that your walk is always downhill at the end of the day. :) There are also some lesser known but beautiful mosques in the immediate vicinity, as well as...

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighbourhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
