The staff was very amable and giving me informations about the city, the breakfast was sensational (during the summer the breakfast is served in a garden, outiside and even if there was some cats there, they were very friendly) and the quality-price raport was very convenient. I can tell you a negative thing about the fact that the hotel is...

My wife and I had stayed at the Kariye Hotel five years ago, and liked it enough to return for a three-day stay this June. The hotel is unique for three reasons. First, it is located right next to the Chora (Kariye) museum, the small version of the Aya Sophia, with superb, recently restored 12th century Greek Orthodox mosaics and...

I've just return from Istanbul were I've stay at this hotel. I found the experience very nice and I like it very much even is far from historical center - Sultanahmet. Anyway the location is beside a very famous byzantine church - Chora - in a very quiet place. The rooms are big enough, heated, very clean, very nice decorated...

The hotel is situated away from the bustle of the Old City next to the Kariye Cami, one of the greatest gems of the Byzantine world, and within walking distance of the old Theodosian city walls, and with a view down to the western end of the Golden Horn. It is a quiet and restful hotel, with an exceptionally fine...

Room was quite big but bathroom is so tiny. Wooden floor. A bit noisy. Hair dryer wasn't working. Breakfast is fair. Nice area to stay for a weekend. I like the restaurant that is such as in the garden.

Very lovely, carefully restored traditional wooden hotel, with one of the best gastronomic restaurant in town (with garden), at very affordable price in a friendly neighborough, close to one of the most important byzantine churches in the world. A wonderful discovery made just by walking in the city!

Staying in Fener & Balat

Neighbourhood Profile
Fener & Balat
This sleepy and rather socially conservative area of Istanbul hosts a small but thriving Jewish community, the patriarchate of the Eastern Orthodox Church, and some of the most beautiful churches and Christian art in the world. Much of what’s most interesting to witness in Fener and Balat sits between the surviving ancient city walls of Constantinople and the serene shores of the Golden Horn. Despite the many splendid sights, historic attractions, stunning vistas, and warm Turkish welcome, the area remains largely unperturbed by the tourist trade that characterizes the atmosphere in nearby Sultanahmet and around the Grand Bazaar. Travelers that like to explore off the beaten track will reap big rewards for making the effort to visit this low-key part of town.
