After many months of searching for a suitable accommodation for our British students and European groups in Istanbul, we were delighted when we came across Republika. As frequent travellers to Istanbul we were struggling to find suitable accommodation for our UK groups, that offered a variety of services all under the one roof and offered a safe quality haven for...

Pro's: - Friendly staff - Fairly nice swimming pool - Quite part of town Cons: - Taxis cant find it / dont know where it is which is a hassel as taxi drivers in Istanbul dont speak English - Hotel has a strong prison feeling to it (all the halls are numbered, and you only have access to your hall)...

Both my parents-in-law and my friends stayed at this place for a week where we joined them for one night. In summary it wasn't a pleasant experience. We defined the concept of the hotel as a prison, with a white/lime colour twist. Both parties had booked their stay via booking.com and had booked a double bedroom. When they arrived they...

This is a new building, dedicated for long term accommodation for students. The general appearance of rooms is similar with the Etap hotels in western Europe, which means very basic. The place is clean, staff is friendly and professional, and we got our rooms for a great price, so not too much to complain. The location is relatively far from...

We stayed in Republika Ortaköy from Christmas 2012 to new year 2013. We chose this hotel because it was particularly cheap and accommodation in Istanbul is very expansive. Republika only was ~60 dollars per night. Here is our rating: Positives: -maid cleans room every day, hotel therefore is very clean - everything is new -very nice new gym Negatives: -trip...

Staying in Besiktas

Neighbourhood Profile
In Besiktas, skyscrapers compete with palaces for space in an upscale vista replete with hilly green parkland filling in the margins. Step into this rather wealthy neighbourhood and discover a rich mix of opportunities to shop, dine, and be entertained. For folks in search of urban buzz, not to mention a constant reminder of just how important Istanbul’s waterways are to its rich history, there's the frenetic Besiktas ferry terminal or the city’s most vibrant fish market to explore. For a timeout of metropolitan proportions, head to the bucolic Yildiz Park or the chic Bosphorus-side fishing village of Ortakoy. Attractions such as the grandiose Dolmabahce Palace and a bevy of other stately residences await admiration. To be sure, this large and not overly touristy swath of Istanbul yields plenty of pleasure for all.
