Having booked this hotel largely because of the positive feedback from this site it is disappointing to post a negative review. After booking a double room (clearly stated on the booking form) the hotel put us in a twin room. When we asked to be moved we were put in the smallest room where the bathroom door would hit the...

This hotel is in an excellent location, close to the traditional sites - Sultan Ahmet mosque, Haghia Sopphia, etc. It's also right on the tram line, which will quickly take you to the Grand Bazaar and the Spice Bazaar and other areas of interest. The staff is attentive, the rooms are well-appointed and the view from the rooftop terrace is...

Sultanhan had good, patient and helpful front desk staff who went beyond merely giving directions and making reservations. I had several long and informative discussions with front desk people about Turkey. It's in Sultanahmet, and close to most historic attractions. The tram is almost at the door which gives cheap, fast, clean service to the European side of the city,...

The best location on Sultanhamet!!!! This is a very discrete hotel, with wonderful rooms, wonderful views, very nice breakfest, clean, extremely confortable. I felt at home over there! They even have an own turkish bath on the basement (although I prefer the Cimberlitas some blocks away).

A wonderful hotel in an old Ottoman palace - you will feel like royalty here, but it's not at all stiff. The staff are extremely kind and accomodating - went out of thier way to help with a complicated e-mail problem of mine. Room was large, comfortable, spotless and elegant but the piece de resistance is the rooftop/top floor restaurant...

I fell in love with Istanbul on our first visit there and wish to go back in the summers. I booked this hotel after reading reviews on tripadvisor. I must say it was a great hotel, brilliant location and very friendly staff. As soon as our taxi entered sultanahmet area our smiles went away b/c it seemed a bit run...

Excellent hotel with very welcoming staff. Rooms a little small, but very quiet. Didnt try the restaurant apart from breakfast which was excellent and magnificent views from the terrace. Hotel in great shape, and perfect for a weekend visit, apart from being asked if we wanted to buy a carpet by the duty staff when we checked out!

I suspect it's been said before, but just returned from an excellent stay at this hotel - friendly helpful staff, very clean (for example bedlinen changed every night), and a perfect location - within minutes of all key sights and the tram stop (yet a quiet side street). Would highly recommend it. It's also easy to walk to a good...

My husband and I were delighted at this hotel. Beautiful lobby, friendly helpful staff. We got a 3 night package including breakfasts and transfers. The breakfasts on the roof Terrace cafe were fabulous. The Turkish cheeses and fruit and tomatoes and olives were so good. It is walking distance to many attractions, and close to the Metro. Would definitly stay...

As the other reviews state, the location of this hotel is pretty much perfect, in the Sultanahmet region of İstanbul, the touristy area on the European side south of the Golden Horn. All the major tourist sites are minutes' walk away. We even walked all the way back from Taksim Square (up where the better restaurants are) in about 90...

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighbourhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
