I have stayed here three times when in Istanbul - it is very basic, when I was there some of the guests were locals, I personally really liked the laid back come and go as you please atmosphere. They also picked me up from the airport free of charge. The location is perfect for sightseeing, it is not somewhere where...

We got into Istanbul and decided to go to Hotel Yunus Emre because of their really good directions from the airport on their website. We got in and got a room. The room was TINY and I thought the floor was going to cave in. Breakfast was okay...basic, but they had a terrace so that was nice. The hotel staff...

Past experience tells me that it is wise to book hotels in advance when arriving in Istanbul. Sometimes there is lots of availability, while other times there is some event meaning rooms are in short supply. So, I booked this hotel - but the booking site is external to the hotel, and when you try to cancel you get an...

When I booked this hotel I made sure I sent a message explaining that we'd be arriving at 5am so I had booked the night prior as well. When we got there they told us they thought we weren't coming and we were lucky they hadn't give our room away because everywhere in Istanbul was full that night. It then...

I have stayed 5 times at this hotel so it must be doing something right. The owners are friendly and helpful and the hotel is well-located and very reasonable in price. It is not perfect (walls of rooms are very thin, beds are comfotable enough but the bed frames are badly designed - take care not to bash your knee...

We stayed here with our teenager children. The hotel is very well located, around the corner from the Blue Mosque, in a pleasant area. Staff are friendly and really very helpful. The rooms were clean and well equipped. There is even free internet. Very much recommended. We had a lovely stay.

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighbourhood Profile
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.

“Hostel rooms don't have AC and are way less comfortable than the hotel rooms, but that is to be expected with hostel rooms. For hotel rooms, try to get a room closer to the front of the building (southwest side) and away from the back (northeast side) as the early morning prayer is louder in the back rooms.”
