While the Sura Hagia Sophia Hotel enjoys a central location lauded by guests for its proximity to historic landmarks, some have found the surrounding noise to be a downside. The establishment's level of service receives mixed reviews, with instances of both commendable staff interactions and frustrating service delays. Cleanliness is generally celebrated, yet occasional lapses in housekeeping are noted. Room sizes and noises are common points of dissatisfaction among travelers, and while the atmosphere's blend of tradition and modernity is appreciated, certain areas are seen as in need of a refresh. The amenities are deemed adequate but not up to par with some guests' expectations for a 5-star hotel.

Hotel Sura Hagia Sophia offers an exceptional stay in the heart of Istanbul, just steps away from the city’s most iconic landmarks. The hotel’s prime location, within walking distance to Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, and the Grand Bazaar, makes it an ideal base for exploring the rich history and vibrant culture of the city.

The service is outstanding, with the staff being consistently friendly, attentive, and eager to ensure a memorable experience for guests. The rooms are beautifully designed, blending modern amenities with a touch of traditional Turkish elegance. The spacious and well-maintained rooms offer a comfortable retreat after a day of sightseeing, with many providing stunning views of the Hagia Sophia or the surrounding historic district.

The hotel’s dining options are also a highlight, with a variety of delicious Turkish and international dishes served in a pleasant setting. The breakfast spread is particularly impressive, offering a wide selection of fresh, flavourful options to start your day.

Great service. Polite and helpful staff. Especially Mohammed Ali Abbasi from food and service department.

**Review of the Sura Hagia Sophia Hotel in Istanbul**

Our stay at the Sura Hagia Sophia Hotel in Istanbul was an unforgettable experience. The hotel boasts an excellent location in the heart of the city, just a few minutes' walk from Hagia Sophia and other historical sights. The central location makes it easy to explore the beauty and cultural heritage of Istanbul.

The ambience of the hotel is luxurious and inviting, with tastefully furnished rooms that combine comfort and elegance. The facilities leave nothing to be desired and offer everything you need for a pleasant stay.

The exceptional hospitality of the staff deserves special mention. The Operating Manager, Fatih Bey, looked after our well-being in a very courteous and professional manner throughout our stay. We were very impressed by his friendliness and commitment to making our stay as pleasant as possible. Fatih Bey was always available to help and advise us and provided us with valuable tips for exploring the city.

The breakfast buffet at the Sura Hagia Sophia Hotel was also a highlight. The variety and quality of the food on offer was excellent, and enjoying breakfast in the hotel's charming garden was a perfect way to start the day.

In summary, we can highly recommend the Sura Hagia Sophia Hotel to anyone visiting Istanbul. The perfect location, elegant ambience and outstanding hospitality, especially from Fatih Bey, make this hotel a first-class choice for a stay in this fascinating city. We are already looking forward to our next visit!

The hotel is listed as a five star hotel on Google but I'd say its a 3-star at best. While we did have the pleasure of dealing with few very delightful staff I'd say on average the staff provided just a mediocre amount of support and service. The location is convenient but as a warning the area can be quiet loud at night and the 4 am worshipping from the mosques can be heard easily in the rooms. The pool is smaller than it looks in their promotional photos and the view isn't as nice as presented either as they photoshopped out a large green apartment building behind the pool. An important note is you are unable to charge any additional expenses to your room and must pay for concierge related services (ie transportation) and meals and breakfast separately. And at this point I cannot recommend the breakfast buffet, the offerings were sub-par and when we did partake we only felt comfortable eating bread and croissants as the meat, cheese, and yogurt presented looked unappetizing and the scrambled eggs were submerged under a thick layer of water. The gym is pretty nice for a hotel and we enjoyed the spa. I think if you understand these issues before your arrival then you will enjoy your stay.

This hotel is very close to Sultanahmet Square, Topkapi Palace, Istanbul Archaeological Museum, Grand Bazaar & Taksim Square, making it ideal for tourists. There are a lot of restaurants, shops & money exchange stations nearby. The metro is a block away.

The hotel requires your passport to check in. Both of our rooms had a/c, tv, fridge, 2 bottled water per day, coffee & tea supplies with a kettle, free toiletries & free wifi. The included breakfast consisted of breads, pastries, cereal, yogurt, dried & fresh fruits, cold cuts, various cheeses, Turkish dishes, made to order eggs, various cakes & other desserts, and several types of juices & coffee.

The 1st room (3107) we received had a king bed with a pillar in the middle of the room. It faced the street where multiple restaurants are located. The shower was large and had walled containers of shampoo, conditioner & bath gel which smelt nice. The shower drain was located right where you stood under the shower head so it was awkward to be standing on the drain while showering. The bathroom sink was of decent size to place your personal items on. They had hand soap, lotion, a shower cap & beauty supplies like a file, cotton pad & Q-tips. Like all hotels there aren’t enough towel racks to hang the used towels to dry. The room was clean and well supplied.

Our 2nd room was in another tower, behind the reception desk. The bathroom wall & door consisted of mirrors. This time we received a courtesy call to see if everything was ok with the room. Our room faced another building, but it was high enough that it overlooked the roof. The hotel is a bit weird since the small elevators don’t go to all the floors. There are floors in between the main floors so no matter where your room is you will need to walk up or down a flight of stairs.

All of the staff were friendly and helpful. I would stay here again when in Istanbul.

Overall I had a positive experience at the Sura Hagia Sophia Hotel but there were a few issues to consider.

The major positive of this place is the location, it was within walking distance to lots of restaurants and landmarks. The room was clean and the beds comfortable.

However, I was disappointed by how noisy the rooms were. We could actually hear people in the neighbouring room using the toilet and the noise from outside was also loud (although we were on ground floor). In addition to the lack of noise insulation, the curtains were thin so the room was very bright from early in the morning. Although the room was clean, there was mould in the shower and the smell was very off-putting. The breakfast was okay but certainly not on the level I would expect from a 5 star rated hotel.

Be careful using the spa facilities where the price is not specified. My mum went for a manicure (€30) and part way through upgraded to gel colour. The spa manager tried to charge her €70 for this which we got down to €60 but this is is still a massive rip off and needs to be made clearer. That being said, I had a hammam at the spa which was very good.

I am surprised that this hotel had been rated as 5 star but for the price we paid I wasn’t really expecting that anyway. Overall I enjoyed my stay and it was worth the amount we paid.

This was my 5th stay at the hotel, its where I choose to stay everytime I visit Istanbul. This won't be the case anymore. The standard of customer service has dropped significantly by reception staff and house keeping unfortunately.

I will start with our arrival, not welcoming like they have been in the past. In all my four previous stays we have arrived early due to flight times. The staff would be incredibly welcoming and invite us to enjoy their breakfast which used to be amazing. Instead upon inquiring the reception staff rather bluntly told me I could have breakfast for a fee of €20 pp. I'm glad I refused and had breakfast outside as the breakfast on offer is no longer €20 euro pp standard.

When we were allocated our room the bathrooms looked tired. We thought ok never mind let's just get on with our trip. However, we found over our 3 night stay that not only did the shower door fall off repeatedly during our stay which was fixed once rather promptly but then left as it was. The bathroom was also not cleaned properly, I noticed because on the first day I dropped some foundation in the sink and this was still there till the end of our trip. The bathroom products like vanity set and shower caps were just left on the sink which meant they would get wet whenever we used the sink.

I mentioned these issues to the guest relations manager and although she appeared concerned by my experience no steps were taken to resolve the matter.

Back to breakfast, I found the breakfast is no longer half as good as it used to be. Half the items are now on offer and even those leave a lot to be desired. My experience in the past at this hotel has been fantastic with staff ging out of their way to accommodate guests. This time, other than the waiting staff at breakfast I found the attitude to be very unwelcoming.

Its a shame because the location is the best but I will not be staying here again. I have another trip booked in January and have chosen to stay at another hotel.

I had an extremely disappointing experience at Sura Hagia Sophia Hotel. Upon check-in, we waited almost an hour, with only two staff members at the reception, one of whom wasn’t even assisting guests. The rooms are incredibly narrow and small, making it very uncomfortable to move around. Although breakfast is supposedly served until 11 AM, if you arrive at 10:30, they won’t let you in.

They have a rooftop restaurant, but it’s not open during the day, even if you request to go up to watch the planes or feed the seagulls. It seems like this restaurant is more accessible to outside guests rather than hotel residents—guests are treated better than those staying at the hotel.

Getting a taxi from the hotel is also a hassle, as the area is always congested, and the taxis charge triple the normal rate. I strongly advise against staying at this hotel, especially if you’re traveling with children.

Dear Rustam We apologize to you for any inconvenience you experienced. But I am obliged to inform you that the time for the breakfast is 7 to 10.30. And the rooftop is also available from 12:00 to 10:30 pm. I guess you have gone there before this time; otherwise, we provide discount for our guests, too. With 8500 years of rich history, Istanbul, like other great cities of the world, combines its historical heritage with modern life. This combination sometimes brings challenges such as structural system, or narrow streets Therefore, Sura Hagia Sophia Hotel, we aim to help our guests with transportation so that they can comfortably explore this unique city. We are working to improve the transportation process to our hotel and offer better guidance to our guests. By providing our guests with directions, transportation options and personal assistance when needed, we want to ensure that they can easily explore the historical and modern face of Istanbul. The hotel's location is extremely convenient, very close to the city's major attractions and excellent restaurants. The room assigned on arrival, underground, 1507, was absolutely unworthy even for a 3-star hotel: very small, extremely noisy, dirty, even with no sockets for charging the phone (the only one present was in the bathroom) as well as any other light from the one on the ceiling which was only turned on by the switch next to the entrance door. The room was equipped with a balcony on a kitchen and air conditioner fume exhaust shaft... In front of the entrance door there was also a linen storage room which was always in disarray and always open. Upon the timely request for a room change we were asked for a supplement of Euro 100 per night; the next morning we managed to get a room change, still paying an additional but much lower price.
If you choose the Sura Hagia Sophia Hotel it is better to check the room very carefully, the one assigned to us after the change was not memorable but certainly normal!

We stayed here 5 nights in September 2024. The hotel has an excellent location, all major sites of interest are easy to reach. Within 5 min walk you will find a tram station. The hotel is surrounded by restaurants and there is a small supermarket opposite the hotel.
We stayed in a Superior room at the 4th (=top) floor. Although the room is spacious, the effective space is limited due to the non-straight walls/ceilings (see photos).
Although the hotel is non smoking, the couch in our room had a burning hole from a cigarette (see attached photo). And the curtains are probably made by someone with bad eyesight (see attached photo).
Staff is friendly and helpful. Breakfast buffet is disappointing, especially for a hotel which claims to be 5*.
Shower and bed are good, WiFi is excellent. The mini bar is an empty fridge. There is a safe and water cooker and complimentary water is provided daily. There are no drinking glasses, just paper cups.
The hotel has a spa and gym and a small swimming pool which needs maintenance and repairs.
Our overall observation is that the hotel doesn't qualify for a 5* rating, in our opinion just 3*.
