We stayed one week in the top suite and spent well over A$6000(US$7000). Firstly, on a positive note, the breakfast staff in the restaurant were great and accommodating to everything, absolutely lovely. The loveliness stopped there. We experienced noise from both the kitchen and the public restaurant right next to our room. We were given incorrect directions to entertainment that...

We have been spending a wonderful week in this hotel, from Nov. 12th 2011 We found it excellent, under every possible aspect: the friendliness of the people in all the departments, the quality of the services, the position and the spectacular view of the city have contributed to make our stay an unfogettable one. We'd love to be back here...

We stayed here on the 18th of October 11 for a birthday treat and anniversary celebration. I come across the hotel by luck because I was trying to book a nice place in Istanbul and Sumahan come up; I read the reviews and decided to book it. It was a wonderful experience could not be a better choice. It is...

Just returned home from four nights at Sumahan on the Water. Agree with most of the reviews on Trip Advisor; the hotel is beautiful, luxurious, the staff are friendly and helpful etc. We had a loft room which was great and very spacious. Loved sitting outside our room, just by the river. We spent most of our time visiting the...

Rooms were great and staff were pleasant. Right on the river and great views of the European side. And if there is a problem it is that – the location. Traffic is Istanbul is not great and while cabs are cheap and plentiful, you will need to leave early to get to that restaurant booking on the European side and...

We stayed at The Sumahan on our return to Istanbul, at the end of our trip before heading home. This turned out to be perfect; things are quieter on the Asian side, but that was ok for us as we had already seen all of the sights in the old town and on the European side in our first go-round....

We were concerned staying on the Asian side of Istanbul might hinder our experience, however, we were surprised what an amazing decision it was! Upon our arrrival the staff was nothing but hospitable and friendly. Service was fantastic and efficient. Not one request went unfullfilled and always with a smile! The views were breathtaking, the suites were sleek and roomy....

With all the special qualities of the Asian Istanbul, this hotel shares a wonderful atmosphere with guests. Loft rooms are excellent in comfort and view to the Bosphorus, seagulls come across the windows to make you feel you're floating in a boat. Although the staff were doing their best, but they could not meet all the requirements of the fine...

This hotel has been restored very well. Located on the Bosphorous, you get a truly unique view of Turkey. Because we spent our initial 3 days in the city, we wanted to have another experience of staying by the Bosphorous. As we had already visited most of the sites in the old city whilst we stayed there, we used the...

Each time I stay here the experience only gets better. The location might take a little getting used to if you have never been to Istanbul before, but the views are worth it, and once you know how to navigate the Bosphorus being on the Asian shore is no problem. Just make a few plans and get used to jumping...

Staying in Uskudar

Neighbourhood Profile
Uskudar
Home to more than half a million residents, Uskudar on the Asian side of the Bosphorus is one of Istanbul’s most densely populated neighbourhoods. Once a Greek colony, later a haven for people from across the Mediterranean and the Middle East, this gateway to Asia has been an active and diverse hub for eons. Still, visitors to Uskudar are often more overcome by its myriad treasures than by its many thousand residents. And with fairytale settings such as the “Maiden’s Tower” as well as grand examples of Ottoman Era architecture, plenty of parks, a gorgeous and lengthy coastline, and some of Turkey’s holiest sites, there’s no end to the sightseeing possibilities. Easily reached from the city’s European shores via a steady network of ferries, time spent in Uskudar reveals a “real life” Istanbul that many who experience find extremely fascinating.
