The Novotel Istanbul Bosphorus garners mixed feedback from its guests. Many travelers appreciate the comfortable and aesthetically pleasing rooms, though noise can be an issue for some. While the hotel's location earns high marks for convenience, opinions about the value are split due to costly extras and occasional service lapses, despite the staff's general professionalism. The rooftop dining experience, with its scenic views, stands out among the amenities, although some guests suggest enhancements could be made. Cleanliness is consistently praised, securing the hotel's reputation for well-maintained premises.

Novotel Bosphorus Hotel Istanbul, Karakoy is located opposite the Bosphorus Avenue, surrounded by many Turkish and international restaurants and cafes. The hotel is very well managed. The reception hall decor is spacious and comfortable. The reception staff are trained. The rooms are beautiful, comfortable and clean. I liked the breakfast restaurant system and the distribution of tables in the restaurant. Because I am a smoker, I was very happy that there is a special place for smokers, separate and far from non-smokers. The food is international and delicious. I thank the hotel management and all the hotel staff for their beautiful reception of me, and I thank the Turkish people for their hospitality to me in their beautiful country.

Novotel Phosphorus Istanbul Review

Overall, my stay at the Novotel Phosphorus was acceptable, but there were several areas that left me less than impressed.

On the positive side, the location was quite convenient, being situated close to many of Istanbul's top attractions. The rooms themselves were also decently appointed and maintained a satisfactory level of cleanliness for the most part.

However, there were a number of issues that detracted from the experience. Most glaringly, I found mould in the bathroom, which is simply unacceptable for a hotel of this calibre. Cleanliness should be an utmost priority, and letting mould fester is a lapse in maintenance standards.

Another letdown was the limited English proficiency of many staff members, which made communication and requesting assistance quite difficult at times. As an international hotel brand, having multi-lingual staff is an important asset.

I was also disappointed by the excessive spa and airport transfers. There was a staggering £47 difference between the hotel's airport transfer fee and what a regular taxi charged for the same route.it would make more sense to simply book transportation separately.

Finally, I was put off by the minibar being checked so frequently during my stay. While I understand the hotel's need to monitor consumables, it felt like an invasion of privacy having staff enter my room so regularly just for minibar checks.

In summary, the Novotel Phosphorus gets the basics right for a mid-range Istanbul hotel, but falls short in several key areas like cleanliness, staffing, pricing practices, and guest privacy that prevent me from giving it a full endorsement. Some improvements are needed to better meet the standards expected of the Novotel brand.

I wouldn't advise against staying at the Novotel Phosphorus, as the issues cited are relatively minor ones that likely won't derail your holiday. However, they may put a small damper on what could otherwise be a 5-star experience. Managing expectations accordingly is advised.

Responded Jun 12, 2024
Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback regarding your recent stay at Novotel Istanbul Bosphorus. We appreciate your candid comments as they help us to continually improve our services and facilities. We are pleased to hear that you found our location convenient and appreciated the overall cleanliness of your room. However, we are deeply sorry to learn about the issues you encountered during your stay. Regarding the Mould in the Bathroom: We sincerely apologize for the oversight. Cleanliness is a top priority for us, and we regret that we did not meet your expectations in this regard. Please be assured that we have addressed this with our housekeeping team to prevent such occurrences in the future. Staff Communication: We understand the importance of effective communication, especially in an international setting. We are working on enhancing our staff’s English proficiency and providing additional training to ensure better service for all our guests. Excessive Spa and Airport Transfer Fees: We appreciate your feedback on our pricing. Regarding the airport transfer, we would like to clarify that the fee you mentioned is for our private transfer service using a Vito vehicle, which offers additional comfort and convenience compared to a regular taxi. This is the most economical option we provide for private transfers. Minibar Checks: We apologize if the frequency of minibar checks felt intrusive. To ensure your privacy, we advise placing a "Do Not Disturb" (DND) card on your door. This will inform our staff not to enter your room, providing you with uninterrupted privacy during your stay. Once again, thank you for bringing these matters to our attention. We hope you will give us another opportunity to serve you better in the future. Should you decide to stay with us again, please do not hesitate to contact us directly so we can ensure your next experience exceeds your expectations. Warm regards, Dilek SEVIG KOSE Guest Experience Manager

Nice hotel in a great location, close to the waterfront.
Fantastic breakfast room overlooking the water and great options
Great selection of fresh food.
However I would make a note of the fact that eggs Benedict were available during breakfast time but not until 08:00 more or less, so if you were there early - the eggs Benedict were not available which was a real shame.
The room was nice, very clean, Tea coffee, mini bar. Safe.
Nice shower.
However the toiletries are impossible to get out of dispensers, because they are positioned too high on the wall and too thick for the dispenser - if you are short, it’s hard work trying to get shampoo or conditioner for your hair.
I spoke to the housekeeping staff and they gave me containers that were not fixed to the wall and this made a big difference for me.
This is a 5 star hotel - yet there are no spoons with the cups - just wooden sticks…! I,don’t understand that…!
I couldn’t find the menu for room service anywhere- had to go to reception to ask - there is no concierge. The information about the hotel is all online but on your phone , it’s quite difficult to read…!
I booked 6 nights bed and breakfast, and I was disappointed that they didn’t give me a room facing the water, it would have been a nice gesture for a guest staying for 6 nights.
One morning at breakfast there was a dog in the restaurant, I just couldn’t believe it that a dog is allowed in an enclosed area where others were eating. The dog was tied to a chair and tripping up the waiting staff as they cleared the tables, the owner was feeding the dog food from the table, and at times the dog was sitting on her lap with its head and paws on the table. What about food hygiene and health and safety rules…?

Dear MabdRosa, Thank you for your detailed feedback about your recent stay at Novotel Istanbul Bosphorus. We truly value your insights as they help us enhance our services. We’re delighted to know you enjoyed our prime location and appreciated the fantastic breakfast selection with its stunning view of the Bosphorus. Your kind words about our clean rooms and helpful housekeeping staff are greatly appreciated. We sincerely apologize for the inconveniences you experienced: Eggs Benedict Availability: Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We will review this with our breakfast team to ensure availability throughout breakfast hours. Toiletries Dispensers: We're sorry about the difficulty with the dispensers. Your feedback has been shared with our housekeeping team to consider more guest-friendly placements and options. Wooden Sticks and Room Service Menu: We will re-evaluate these choices and ensure room service menus are easily accessible for guests in the future. Room Facing the Water: We understand your disappointment, especially for a longer stay. However, rooms with a Bosphorus view are often pre-booked by guests, and due to our high occupancy, it is very challenging to provide complimentary upgrades. We truly appreciate your understanding. Dog in the Restaurant: We are deeply sorry for this incident, as it does not align with our standards for food hygiene and safety. We will reinforce our policies to prevent such occurrences. Thank you for highlighting both the positive aspects and the areas for improvement. We hope to welcome you back and provide you with an even better experience next time. Warm regards, Dilek SEVIG KOSE Guest experience Manager

Our first stay in Istanbul and we decided to stay in the Karakoy area as we’d heard about the restaurants around the area which didn’t dissapoint. Although we will come back to Istanbul and stay in the same area, we wouldn’t return to Novotel.

Noise: We were aware that our room location would not be sea facing but nobody warned us about the noise from the vents. We really struggled to sleep at night because of the constant noise coming from the vents and also chairs being scraped on the floor from the restaurant above. Would suggest getting noise cancelling ear plugs if you stay in a superior room as we really struggled to get to sleep.

Cleaning: Can see difference in cleaning compared to our stays in Cairo and Dubai. I guess a 4* hotel in Turkey has different cleaning standards. We asked for the beds to be changed and always noticed hear on the pillow cases and bed so weren’t sure if it had actually been changed.

Service: our luggage was taken from us when we entered but we were asked at the reception if we wanted it delivered to our rooms. I didn’t see the point of that. Upon checking out we had to wait a while for the cleaners to check if we had taken anything from the mini bar as they don’t take your word for it. Again perhaps a cultural thing but never been asked at hotel stays in other countries.

Shower: we kept getting a range of extremely hot or extremely cold water during the shower which was annoying and irritating on my skin.

Breakfast: never tried the breakfast since it was £20-£30 per head which is a surprising cost given that you can turn 1 minute and find loads of cafes that do amazing breakfast for a quarter of the price. We usually like trying breakfast for 1 night in a hotel but were already finding it difficult to sleep with the noise that it wasn’t worth waking up before 10 to try the breakfast. Especially for the prices that they were demanding.

Room dining: we like to try in room dining at other hotels but read online about how it was served which put us off from trying.

We wanted to stay at a hotel that was clean and somewhere we could rest after exploring Istanbul. Novotel didn’t achieve that.

Hotel is in a great location. Handy for the ferry stop which will take you to the Asia side and the old city or you can walk over the bridge to the old city. The hotel staff were all very helpful and friendly from the start to finish.
We had one issue with our room which was sorted very promptly, our room overlooked the street which had a couple of bouncing bars, so was very noisy. We were moved to an inner room very quickly and recived a heartfelt apology note the following morning (plus some Turkish delight). The inner room was equally as nice but quiet and peaceful.
The hotel is very clean and tidy throughout, the lobby toilets were also spotless. Our room was spacious with a comfortable bed (a king size not two singles pushed together).
The lobby bar served great food, and the waiting staff were attentive and helpful.
Our favourite place was the Archer cafe which is just off the lobby. Staff were very helpful and friendly, overall service is excellent. The breakfast Menemen is fantastic. Their turkish tea and coffee couldn't be beaten.
The roof top bar has fantastic views. The cocktails were expertly made (pricey but only to be expected), smoking is allowed but as it is semi open air I didn't find that too much of an issue. We didn't eat at the rooftop restaurant.
Overall a great hotel made for a great base to explore an amazing city. We will be booking again for next year.

The location is centered around many popular attractions and walking distance to the port.

Bring your phone or camera along to capture the beautiful sunrise whilst enjoying your breakfast at the rooftop terrace restaurant. Nice view and good food!

Room is standard size. Some lower level rooms may get the noise from the back alley streets that have bars and restaurants operating till 2am.

There are also a lot of good food options around 10 mins walking distance of this hotel so you will be spoilt for choices!

I stayed at this hotel from 29th October to 4th November. Will start with the good point. I got a room facing the Galata tower which was amazing at night time. The cleaning was top notch and the breakfast team were amazing and the view from the rooftop was beautiful especially during sunrise. The concierge were helpful in giving me direction when it wasn’t necessary to use a cab and overall polite. Now the bad point were the check in team, my husband made the reservation and requested for early check in which he got affirmative response, the reservation also included breakfast. I arrived around 10:30 am and I was informed that there wasn’t any room available! Fair enough it was the republic day and the hotel was fully booked. However the reception was so non challant as to where I could stay before then. I sat at the lounge area to stretch my legs and after about an hour a cleaner comes to wake me up saying that the throw pillow on the chair fell. He was very aggressive as if he was going to fight with me. After this I walked outside to some cafes and had something to eat. I returned by 1pm and still no available room. I decided to walk around again. By 2:25pm I got a room but the reception informed me that breakfast wasn’t included in my room. I was perplexed!!! After making payment of 1,470 usd!!!! For 6 nights. I asked him to check because my husband surely made the reservation with breakfast. He was adamant that there wasn’t any breakfast and I have to pay. Probably because I am black he thought I can’t afford the breakfast. I was so tired at the point and I just needed to rest. I went to bed and by the next morning I had no breakfast. By evening I called my husband to complain and he insisted the reservation included breakfast! Behold I went back to the reception to complain and I was told it included breakfast. Yet no one called my room to inform me about the mix up! No refunded for the days I missed breakfast. This was so upsetting and killed the happy moment I wanted at the hotel. As I said over all the cleaning, breakfast team and concierge were helpful but the reception team need to do better.

We stayed at Novotel Bosphorus for 2 nights in May, it was a very comfortable stay. The staff were overly friendly (which is a usual thing in Turkey), but professional, the room was very clean and quiet despite looking into the internal courtyard with ventilation system. The breakfast was plentiful (I especially liked Turkish delight!) with breathtaking views over Bosphorus. We also had dinner at their Michelin-starred Murver, it was delicious, although pricey. We used their pool and sauna facilities, they were open until 10pm, which allowed us to unwind after a long, busy and hectic day. The location is unbeatable, right next to Galata Port with lots of cafes and restaurants. The only thing I didn't like is the comfort of pillows and duvet, perhaps its is Accor standard, but I found them to be not a 5 star level, too hard, heavy and synthetic. Otherwise, a lovely stay!

The service and hotel staff here, namely Mehmet and Chef Serkan (at the hotel breakfast), Saim (house cleaning), and Anil (concierge/bell services) left me a good and last impression, and really added the “extra” to my stay in Novotel Istanbul Bosphorus - also my first visit to Istanbul ❤️ . I struggle being breakfast person from my busy work/travel schedule in Istanbul, but their effort to go above and beyond in their service to take care of my family’s table is remarkable and made me look forward to breakfast. I am touched and so grateful. Chef Serkan took time to explain foods to me despite his limited English, whip up local egg dishes I show him on google, and surprise me with beautifully plated pancakes, and Mehmet was extremely attentive to our table and made sure we were efficiently served and never lacked. The service is truly excellent, truly. Saim showed integrity and excellence in how he serviced and cleaned my room. He laid extra towels and bathrobes out in a thoughtful manner - to the point I knew when it was him who cleaned our room, and when it wasn’t. He also ran after us to return us items that were left behind at checkout. Anil took time to help translate some of my conversations with service staff, and also gave me insights and recommendations on more local places to consider visiting in Istanbul. It’s a pity my stay was pretty short! 😔 Also, you have to try the Turkish bath. I had a great experience and conversation with the staff who scrubbed me down 😂

I booked this trip as a Christmas present for my mum. I wanted to book an executive suite with bosphorus view so we could both have our own rooms thereotically (bedroom and then lounge with sofa bed).

On check in we were greeted by someone whose English was terrible. They say their reception also works as concierge but they are really not knowledgable and didn't know much about the area.

When we checked into the room, the lamps didn't work, general cleanliness of the bathroom wasn't great when you find dark hairs on towels.
Lack of hangars etc.

Sofa bed made up for me and just one measley pillow left.. This sofa bed is also rock hard, every morning I woke up I was in agony!

The location of the hotel is great which is it's best selling point. Breakfast had a lot to offer in terms of pastries, fruit and salad but not much hot food.

There was a card in the room with the manager's details when we arrived saying please contact me if you need anything/comments etc. I emailed him straight away and didn't hear anything over a 3 night/4 day period so totally pointless that they leave this. Still haven't heard anything to this date.

There are many hotels close-by so do your research as this was an expensive stay for a hotel which is very out-dated and needs some major work doing to it!

Hi there When you want to book your hotel, there are different prices and if you book the price that includes breakfast you can have it on the rooftop restaurant ( I strongly suggest that because not only the quality is perfect but also you can enjoy the spectacular view) However, the pool is free but for spa you should pay which actually the price is worthy. Hope this helps Have a good one

If you want to use a car from the hotel, there is a service fee. You can use a taxi from the airport, or you can use a bus. There are buses that can take you to an area near the hotel.
