We're on a tight budget so are happy to be saving $ by staying here. We're definitely getting what we pay for. The hotel has no heat so it's very cold in winter months. There's a school behind the hostel so noisy school kids wake us each morning. The staff play video games at the reception desk so don't really...

NO NO NO! Dirty place and bad service! I was there during easter/passover and they gave my room to two strangers and made me sleep on the floor in the hallway like many other because of some "system failure" in their booking system. They almost ripped me off but I stood up and refused to pay full price.

Staff seems lazy, unorganized and unconcerned with guest's needs. The property could be amazing given its location but it has been sadly neglected and in need if repair and so much cleaning. Could be a destination hostel in Jerusalem if they put in an effort. Instead you should consider somewhere else. Also the breakfast is a joke. They even set...

For sure, this is not the cleanest hostel i d never sleep on! But bed are clean, shower are working. Its extremly well located, 5 min from the St- Sepulture Church. The roof is amazing, with the view of the Golden Mosque. In the evening you can enjoy the view with an opera sound in back (comes from the show...

Excellent location and a nice view from the roof terrace. That's it! Rust, mould, dirt and a very unserviceminded staff makes this an unpleasant experience. Couldn't even try the breakfast. Certainly not worth the price.

If you don't mind the hostels service can be a good place. The locations is the straight. Staff is not the best to ask quastions about Jerusalem so if you have turism questions I recomend that not trust them at all. It's unexpensive so if it's your priority go ahead!!

This is a famous old building basic and in a great location for the old city with a great rooftop view, it has a unique atmosphere fitting with its location, a good place to meet fellow travellers, I really enjoyed staying there.

I stayed there for 5 nights. Rooms are basic but no problem because it's one of the cheaper hostels. The bathroom was smelling strange (like asbestos). Morning time it was a bit noisy with a school next door. Breakfast was very basic and today after half an hour it was already finished (and nobody filled up). Location is great, the...

I had the much regretted idea of booking a last minute 'deluxe' twin private room in this hotel-hostel with a friend and our stay there was in few words just awful. The tiny and incredibly dirty room we were given was literally infested by two inches long moth flies (alive, dead, and all stages in between) which, I presume, entered...

Petra HOSTEL is a great place to stay while exploring Jerusalem provided you book a private room with private bathroom on the ground floor and take your own bedding. There are also dorm rooms and sleeping on the roof. The views from our room and the roof where breakfast is served are simply amazing. Built in the 1800s, you are...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Petra Hostel is a large and remarkable hostel that is located directly inside Jaffa Gate, offering a prime location. We have wide range of options, we have deluxe and super deluxe and simple rooms, for every kind of budget. The hostel has four floors. The roof of the hostel also offers additional rooms, as well as the option to rent a mattress or tent on the roof itself and sleep under the Jerusalem stars. It is a simple yet quite large hostel, considering it is inside the Old City. Each floor is has of a large common area, which includes several seating areas, a communal kitchen and fridge, and a TV (shared) as well as a common library where you can select different books and a dining table. Our hotel is reachable by taxi and car (right up to the front door)Much has changed since the Petra Hostel's conception in the early 1830's. But the wonderful ambiance, clean and beautiful well priced rooms, and the most beautiful views in Jerusalem of the old city have remained and continue to be a 180 year constant. With such famous budget travelers such as; Herman Melville, Mark Twain and General Allenby- Petra Hostel's reputation is as poetic and as mystical as the Holy Land itself A common kitchen can be used for cooking is available, as well as laundry service, an airport shuttle service, internet service, and amazing roof Most of the rooms are ensuite with private bathroom. Common bathrooms are also available. The atmosphere is home-like. There are stained glass windows and light fixtures. The outstanding feature of this hostel is its view. Because of its prime location, every window in the hostel has a stunning view of either the wall of the Old City and the street below, or the rooftops of the Old City. Seemingly every room opens onto a balcony. The best area, by far, is the roof, where there are separate rooms with an incredible panoramic view of the entire Old City as well as the Mount of Olives, Mount Scopus, etc. Every landmark is visible!Free breakfast now available for everyone staying in the hostel. ... more   less
