Great place to stay for a business trip, excellent dinner and good breakfast, simple yet comfortable rooms with buckets of character. Relatively quick trips (some walking) to get to our meetings. Altogether very pleasant

Rooms were nice. Beds were comfortable and air-conditioning was helpful for us not accustomed to the hot weather. The concierge was helpful in ordering taxis and booking tours. We particularly enjoyed the gentlemen running the dining room our first couple of mornings....their advice on things to do and see was spot on and we really enjoyed getting to know them....

Great architecture, some rooms have more colonial characteristics than others but all decent & very clean. Some rooms could do with new air conditioners as rather noisy (hence 4 not 5 stars). Restaurant just been renovated & very nice but we preferred the outside patio (bar food & full restaurant menu available here). Breakfast menu great & several good vegetarian...

This is a lovely building with comfortable but not perfect accommodation. Noise can be a problem so bring ear-plugs if you are sensitive to it ; also reception staff can appear off-hand and disinterested but that might just be the Georgetown way as I experienced this elsewhere. Dining room is good if very slow but the food was very acceptable....

Thank you Andrew for your constructive comments. Like you, we love the beauty and history of Cara Lodge but it is an old building and centrally located therefore occasionally can be noisy but this is not always the case. I am sorry you found the staff off-hand, we endeavor to provide a pleasant as well as professional reception and normally...

The Cara Lodge is a jewel in Georgetown, a very beautiful building with an old story,it has a unique atmosphere. The rooms are big and comfy, with every service you could ask for a good price. Every employee was very warm, helpful and attentive, they helped us several times during our stay. The food in the restaurant was very affordable...

As most know, Georgetown has a rather wild-West vibe to it. However, this property is a wonderful place to put your head down at night and to wake-up in the morning. The front desk people are very helpful when it comes time to assist with everything from directions to making tour arrangements. Of particular note is their restaurant. It is...

Cara Lodge is a little gem - old style architecture, simple but smart rooms, great food and nice staff. Actually the staff are more than nice, they are all friendly, attentive and pleased to help. The covered atria affords cover from the sun and rain. Nice breeze coming through

2 nights here. Lovely old colonial building. Good food. Attentive staff. Walking distance from town centre. I'd return happily. No gym on site but that a reasonable thing for this era and location. Good A/C in rooms

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The history aficionado will appreciate a stay at Cara Lodge, Guyana. It is one of the oldest and grandest structures in Georgetown, and is the best known and most popular hotel in Guyana. Cara Lodge was built in the 1840s and originally consisted of two houses. It has a long and romantic history and was the home of the first Lord Mayor of Georgetown. Over the years, the property has been visited by many dignitaries including King Edward VII who stayed at the house in 1923. He was of course later to abdicate and marry the American Wallis Simpson. Other dignitaries have included President Jimmy Carter in 1996, HRH Prince Charles in April 2000, HRH Prince Andrew in 2004 and Mick Jagger in 2005. This magnificent home turned hotel offers the tradition and nostalgia of a bygone era, complete with service and comfort of the most luxurious of hotels, all in a most congenial family atmosphere. Our signature dining establishment, the Bottle Restaurant, has been hailed as the best restaurant in the capital. It is open for lunch and dinner everyday, except Sundays. At Cara Lodge, we have worked hard to create a setting that is the perfect marriage of old world charm and contemporary comfort – ideal for the traveller wishing to experience a taste of Guyana’s past, and the business person wishing modern-day amenities. ... more   less
