Good enough. Colonial Charm. Friendly Staff. The food is quite good, despite a bit of a wait. Bed was comfortable, as was the room, despite the little tiny ants, which I guess, 'comes with the territory'. Place has a nice feel to it though.

Thank you we are glad you liked the food and the breezy restauarnt - there is nothing nicer than enjoying the open air and good food. I like your "go green concept" and indeed we do love the fact that although in the centre of town we are still in the middle of the rain forest and are lucky to...

We were very happy with the service. When I didn't feel well they went to the pharmacy for me. Air conditioned rooms were comfortable, with very nice pillows! The bar was below our room, you could hear the blender at night and ice arrival in the morning, but if it wasn't that it was the neighbors dog. We were up...

Thank you and I am glad you found the rooms comfortable and that our staff went to the pharmacy for you - we do like to try and go the extra mile! Unfortunately in an old hotel you may hear a little more noise than usual but we do try to be as quiet as possible. We have spoken to...

We had a very comfortable stay in this lovely hotel. The restaurant was excellent with very friendly staff, the mango tree bar was the heart of the hotel with great cocktails and superb rum. I can highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Georgetown

Spent a week here on a business trip. Above Basic hotel with AC in your bed room. This is key in this country. Felt safe and secure while in facility. No problem with water or electricity. You don't need a converter if your from America. Breakfast in their restaurant was very good and dinner was as well. Ate most of...

Excellent place, the staff is great, the hotel is great, love it ! I have visited the hotel between 2002 and 2013 frequently. I saw the expansion being built, the covering of the courtyard, all very great improvements. Only one thing, as a regular customer I would kindly ask to be more flexible in the room reservations. Especially the last...

I feel like I'm visiting friends here. Such great staff and a beautiful room and hotel. It's now my third time to this hotel, and I couldn't be more happy with everything. Still the best place to eat in town as well - not for lack of trying to find something that compares around here. Free wifi, a nice relaxing...

This is, simply put, the best place to stay in Georgetown. Comfy, funky, tidy and with good service, Cara Lodge really has no serious competition. Set in a pair of historic houses, room formats vary, but the two we stayed in were fine. Decent WiFi -- which is as good as it gets in Guyana. Do not expect high speed....

This is a wooden structure build in Colonial times with clean rooms. The service is excellent and it is good to see the same staff is on for many years. The menu offers great local and international dishes with good portion sizes and top quality food. It is easy to walk to the market or the Supermarket and a taxi...

Stayed at Cara Lodge on a few occasions between last year and now. Nice Georgian style building and nice covered courtyard area. The check in staff is pleasant enough and most of the restaurant staff . Rooms seem freshly painted walls clean. However, the television did not work and the thing that kills it for me for all hotels is the bathroom...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The history aficionado will appreciate a stay at Cara Lodge, Guyana. It is one of the oldest and grandest structures in Georgetown, and is the best known and most popular hotel in Guyana. Cara Lodge was built in the 1840s and originally consisted of two houses. It has a long and romantic history and was the home of the first Lord Mayor of Georgetown. Over the years, the property has been visited by many dignitaries including King Edward VII who stayed at the house in 1923. He was of course later to abdicate and marry the American Wallis Simpson. Other dignitaries have included President Jimmy Carter in 1996, HRH Prince Charles in April 2000, HRH Prince Andrew in 2004 and Mick Jagger in 2005. This magnificent home turned hotel offers the tradition and nostalgia of a bygone era, complete with service and comfort of the most luxurious of hotels, all in a most congenial family atmosphere. Our signature dining establishment, the Bottle Restaurant, has been hailed as the best restaurant in the capital. It is open for lunch and dinner everyday, except Sundays. At Cara Lodge, we have worked hard to create a setting that is the perfect marriage of old world charm and contemporary comfort – ideal for the traveller wishing to experience a taste of Guyana’s past, and the business person wishing modern-day amenities. ... more   less
