WOW!!!!! This is definitely a litte piece of paradise. We did a tour with gateway shore tours from Noumea as we were on a cruise. Just breath taking the moment we stepped off the ferry. Beautiful resort, great facilities, the food is amazing and wonderful for snorkling. I highly recommend this resort. We would love to come back and stay...

We visited this island on a tour (Gateaway Tours) which we had pre-booked before our visit to Noumea. We stopped in Noumea on a cruise ship for a day so we had a few hours on this beautiful resort island, Ilot Maitre. The ferry was covered so we did not get wet on our 25 minute boat ride. Once on...

Well, I must admit we were a little worried after reading the reviews "dated rooms" "terrible food" "snakes everywhere" "unresponsive staff", it was the total opposite. Honestly some people are extremely difficult to please! We went as a family of seven adults, we had 4 over water bungalows which were superb. We have stayed in similar accommodation in the Maldives...

We stayed in an overwater bungalow and it was like staying in an aquarium . You simply put on the mask and fins , free of charge from the resort , and jump into an underwater wonderland . Lots of living coral , bright reef fish , clams and we saw turtles at least 20 times . Absolutely the best...

It's truly difficult to rate this hotel. It's one of the most beautiful places I've ever been to and one of the best experiences I've had with my family. Yet the service is terrible and the food aweful. This is the most pristine marine environment I've seen. Having an overwater bungalow gives you the space, privacy and ease of access...

Hi Lori, we just came back. The overwater bungalow is beautiful. Our breakfast was included. Lunch "snacks" is about $Aus 16 each. Lunch buffet cost us $Aus 110 each so don't have lunch buffet, do the snacks which is a stew with chips!! Dinner was $Aus 110 each but they gave us 50% off dinners. No food avail at the bar just cocktails & beer but only open on weekends. We were very disappointed in the buffet. The seafood was not fresh or of good quality. As the days went on the buffet turned into leftovers. Sausages and tuna from the day before was turned into a salad with mayo. Unfortunately there is nothing else to eat so you are a bit stuck. I'd go straight to the grill which is in the buffet and cooked for you on the spot, but even the meat is poor quality but at least you know it's not leftovers. Grab some food from the mainland before going over. The desserts are really good and cheese selection was great. No crackers though so chop up some baguettes. They had a large selection of wine. A very small list of cocktails and the staff were not trained in making cocktails or a good coffee. The rooms only have a small bar fridge & kettle so you can't prepare much. We joked about catching our own fish & cooking it on a fire on the beach! If you have a snake phobia don't go! I saw 25 snakes in 4 days. They crawl up the stairs from the water & sun themselves on your deck. Keep your door closed! They are not aggressive but they are venomous although they'd have to bite you in between your toes etc as their heads are small. You'll see heaps of turtles which are gorgeous. Practice your French as the staff have little English skills. We had fun and the over water bungalow was perfect. Loved the shower and marble bathroom. Bedroom was Devine and view amazing. What let us down was the food and customer service. Basically you are paying for the uniqueness of the room and location. Good luck... I hope you have a better holiday than us, maybe they'll lift their game in the food department, because you are paying a lot for an RSL /bowling club type meal. Ps Fiji is awesome plus they have overwater bungalows near Mana Island. Just a thought. xx

Hi Steve,

We booked directly with the resort but agree that they don't have the easiest website to locate. Just search for glp hotels and follow the links to L'escapade contact details (Tripadvisor doesn't allow to include website details in response for some reason)

The resort is approx 20 mins boat ride from Noumea and provides free transfers from Noumea, however it may cost you if you want to travel back to Noumea during your stay.

Boat departure times from Port Moselle in Noumea : 8H00 - 10H00 - 11H30 - 14H30 - 16H30.

Boat departure times from the Escapade Island Resort: 8H30 - 10H30 - 14H00 - 15H00 - 17H00

If you are staying at the resort the ferry is free from Port Moselle. You will need to arrange your own transfer from the airport to Port Moselle, about 40 minute drive. We book through Arc en ciel.nc only $3000 cxp (South pacific francs)$36 Aus pp.

But island is currently closed to guests due to refurb. Try May-June.
