The hotel is a bit tired, but we were at least in the refurbished bit. The air con worked, and it had everything we needed. We were there when the independence day celebrations were on, which was fun! the meal options are not cheap, so don't expect that. It might be nice to have breakfast included, rather than having to... More

I've stayed several times at the Mendana. The refurbished rooms are very nice. The old rooms less so but ok when in town for business. The japanese restaurant is very good. The pool is good, the hotel wifi is good in the public areas but only some rooms have in room access. The staff are very nice and helpful.

The full page colour advertisement in the Solomons Airlines magazine advertised '100 fully refurbished rooms...', virtually implying that all the rooms had been refurbished. Our group of 12 must have been given the unrefurbished rooms. Don't be fooled by being told 'you will be upgraded by a seaview room in the West wing'. There is no upgrade. The rooms are... More

I recently stayed at the Mendana for two nights during a business trip to Honiara. This is a very good property for business travelers, but you should not stay here if you expect a resort with a pool and sandy beaches. As other reviewers have noted, the pool is small and it is not maintained. The beach is also small,... More

I often stay at the Mendana when I travel to Honiara for business. I find the rooms comfortable, the staff friendly and helpful and the meals good quality. I have found it to be a quiet and peaceful place to stay. The renovated rooms are very modern and tastefully decorated and the older room are very comfortable. All rooms I... More

Stay in the new section! I stayed in both and there is a difference. The new section has the best beds! Great location for shopping with a pharmacy across the road, an exceptionally fine cafe next door, the pool is clean, the staff are very helpful and professional, their Japanese restaurant is excellent.

Hotel looks very 'Resort' like from the outside. The 'Captains' restaurant offers great service. Stopped here for coffee and to relax. The hotel in it self is a higher end Solomon Island Hotel. Can recommend you to check this out if you are staying over night in Honiara.

Very disappointed with our stay. Arrived very late, after a delayed ferry from Tulagi. At first things looked promising as the lobby is clean and expensive looking. However, upon arriving in the room, we were less than impressed. Old and tired, the bed is on wheels, so whenever you move the whole bed also moves. Unappealing brick walls. The pool... More

I first came here in March 1972 which might give you an insight to the hotels age. Honiara was a relatively simple and unsophisticated place then. The Mendana, at that time, was the best accommodation available. Great location, good accommodation and good food. Goodness, how things change over the years. Yes, some parts of the hotel have been refurbed over... More

It Was a public holiday , only payment was by credit card and we needed to eat . So 7 tired and hungry visitors arrived at this Hotel Dinning room. We had 2 hours between flights. The Hotel entrance was like an Oasis coming from a dusty ; noisy and very crowded street scape. . We chose the light lunch... More
