On the up side: - excellent location: 3 mins from Jongkak metro station, 15 mins walk from Myeongdong, 20 mins walk to the palace - free Wifi: very strong and stable signal - free breakfast: just toast, hard-boiled eggs, salad green and juice (sausages sometimes). Not spectacular, but you just don't expect it because of its frugal room rate -...

Staying in Insadong

Neighbourhood Profile
Insadong
Nestled between Jongno and Samcheongdong, this small neighborhood offers a crash course in various aspects of Korean culture. Rows of shops display traditional Korean goods such as pottery and earthenware, crafts, fans, and more, making it a popular spot for souvenir shopping. The Ssamziegil shopping complex in particular has become a local institution for its unique spiral layout and the many boutique shops inside that sell handmade crafts and goods. This is the perfect neighborhood to sample a range of Korean dishes, with vegetarian Korean temple cuisine restaurants being a popular draw, but street food carts are just as famous. As a top tourist destination, crowds can swell, particularly on weekends, but you can find some rest and respite in one of the private art galleries or grab a cup of Korean tea in a tea house – many of which are located in beautifully renovated traditional Korean homes.

“All rooms are extremely tiny. But twin rooms are marginally bigger. Bring your own towels if you're a bit on the anal side.”
