This hotel is not for you if you are someone who likes consistency, want to be surrounded by the same tourists from your flight over, enjoy eating the complimentary continental breakfast that comes with your Gold status at the Hilton. However, if you have been dreaming about an adventure in mythical Egypt your whole life and finally sacrificed a long journey over and are ready to dive right in...LE RIAD is THE place for you. Driving along a thousand year old city wall, you actually get to go inside this ancient Islamic settlement through a narrow entrance, following a even older cobble stone roads barely wide enough for a horse carriage, the driver will expertly maneuver without actually hitting anyone or thing. You are surrounded by hundreds of shoppers, merchants, cats, wonderful bright colored lanterns, spices, vintage furnitures, and the amazing food and all the aroma and the sound that comes with it...and yet, inside the safe compartment of your car, you feel joy and even peace. And the best part is yet to come. You arrive at this nondescript hotel front, being welcomed by the friendliest manager and his staff, you're guided up to your room. We had one of the larger suites on the second floor, Mamelouk. Color theme of delicious oranges which they sell everywhere in Egypt, gorgeous vintage furnitures and beaded chandeliers. Through the corrugated wooden doors, standing on the balcony looking over the brimming market place, you can choose to take it all in as a spectator, or jump right into the action. The place takes you on a time machine back to mysterious olden times, yet with all the modern comforts of AC, Wifi, Satellite TV, and even a rain shower. The party really starts when the sunsets with the live performance coming from the Fish Restaurant just across the street. We enjoyed dinner for two people of giant grilled shrimp and grilled eel (they called it sea snake and have English menu) all for less than 10 USD! The party actually does not stop until midnight. But who wants to go to bed early in Egypt anyways? And when you're woken up early morning with humming of a call of prayer, not to worry. On their gorgeous roof top restaurant (surrounded by the view of ancient domes but protected from the smoke and sand w/ AC) Le Riad has actual drip coffee (most places here serves Nescafe instant coffee) and the most amazing Egyptian breakfast consisting of flaky fetteer, goul, and falafel. They also have omelet and croissants. And of course fresh OJ. The manager was also so accommodating allowing us to stay as long as we needed on our final day. The staff is constantly checking on you to see if you're happy and if you need anything else. And house baked cookies were a special treat! At Le Riad, you will not be just a tourist watching through a plexiglass. Cairo will hit you hard and it will be stamped in your heart. You will want to return.

If you have the slightest passing affection for traditional handicrafts of any culture and an even inkling of interest in traditional Islamic architecture, this place will soon become a site of pilgrimage. Sumptuous rooms with beautiful Egyptian arts from mother of pearl inlay, to khayamiya quilts, Arabian lanterns, and each rooms' unique themed twist. This visit I staying in Music which was decorated with tambourines and rababas and beautiful paintings of dancing and musicians. But the museum quality surroundings in which you will be enveloped in your room is only a piece of the story. Step outside and you are in the tucked away magnificence of the Islamic architecture of the area which is so often missed by tourists coming to Khan al Khalili. These masterpieces would be worth the stay if you were in a shoe box. They truly transport you to another beautiful facet of Egypt, showing you its accomplishments in the 2,000 years following the pharaohs. For this atmosphere alone Le Riad Hotel de Charme is my only choice for Cairo. All that being said, and as much as I truly truly love this hotel and my every night spent there, I think the prices are well beyond the market and the value. If this place cost $150 per night instead of $300 I would come three times as often.

it's a breakfast review for the hotel terrace, we didn't use the hotel rooms itself but used the breakfast service at the hotel rooftop, was a hot day in August but went fine, the breakfast was so delicious and reasonably priced, service was excellent too and taking all the Covid-19 measurement strictly, clean toilets as well, make sure to reserve ahead and state any special request, view also was spectacular.

The hotel is in heart of the historic center of Cairo. It's better to ask for transportation from the Hotel itself or through a travel agency since the vehicles need police permission to enter the historic center. The place is noisy at night which makes it uncomfortable during sleep. Also, it's difficult to just roam in the historic center due to the vendors. It's better to have a tour guide and tourism police, easy to roam without the vendor's disturbance. We got the room with theme Music which was well decorated and comfortable. The rooms are spacious and the staffs are excellent. The restaurant on the rooftop was an excellent and nice place to get great pictures of old city.

We stayed here for three nights in Nov 2020 in room 10. Each room has a theme and Room 10 is “cinema”. It has a large bathroom, reading room with desk and couch, while the bedroom has TV and king sized bed. Staff at the hotel are attentive and friendly. The Manager was great! Our breakfast was included and served until 10.30 am each day on the rooftop with a great view! Try the Lemon Mint drink - delicious! Hotel is in walking distance of the Bazaar. Many eating opportunities around the area. We had family members stay in room 11, which was a bit larger and had a balcony, however they mentioned the street noise was even louder than in our room 10. The street in front of the hotel is lively until midnight each day. You also have to get used to the morning prayers starting around 5 am - speaker seems to be right across the street. If you turn on the AC it helps to drown the street noise a little bit. Nonetheless, the hotel is beautiful and unique if you’d like to experience a boutique hotel instead of another Hilton or Marriott.
