Fatuma's tower is a real home into a home. You feel a special atmospere, everything looks irreal and projected into a magic place. The garden is very impressive. Everything around looks old african style. Fatuma'sTower is located in Shela behind the Peponi's block, if you haven't easy orientation you get lost within the street up & down, but everybody can...

We spend four days/nights in this wonderful place. Away from the bustle of the shore but within easy reach of Lamu town, this quirky house and tranquil garden in the centre of Shela, provides a wonderful wecoming place to stay. We would certainly return and look forward to nothing changing!

Hi there, Myself and my sister had a wonderful week at Fatuma’s Towers. We would highly recommend it to anyone that wants to stay in simple but very lovely accommodation in the little village of Shela. We spent the morning on the beach and swimming, and enjoyed an hour of yoga every day. We ate fresh seafood and explored the...

It's such great experience stay in Fatuma's house. Gillis, builded this place about 20 years ago. It's in the end of the village. Hidden gem in the town. We stayed the Majilis, the only 5 starts hotel in lamu area. It's very high end. But we love Fatuma's Tower more, because it's more feel like home, like a place you...

I stayed at Fatuma's Tower 13 years ago and had great memories of this place. I was really looking forward to coming back and was not disappointed. At my arrival at the beach Osman picked me up and carried (both!!!) my bags to the hotel, up to the room. I was offered a fresh juice as welcome and showed me...

I spent 3 nights at Fatuma's Tower in October 2016, with 2 friends and absolutely loved it. Even though the property was not on the beach, it more than made up for it it terms of character and the beautiful rooms and furniture. The staff was very gentle and helpful, the owner as well took time out to meet us...

We travelled up to Shela from Nairobi for a weekend last month, and thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Fatuma's. Gillies, Osman and Joseph were all very welcoming, and the guesthouse itself is certainly unique. Although each of the rooms takes advantage of a particular feature of the tower and its environs - be it the wonderful garden, or the history...

I have been a regular fan and stayed often here. However on our last trip, I was most disappointed. Not only were all the good staff gone, leaving young, keen but inexperienced staff to try to manage things, but the place itself needed a lot of TLC. I appreciate Lamu has been on a downturn for some time, however to...

Dear Sunderam, we read your comments and feel they are somewhat exaggerated. For example, the prawns you personally bought from an outsider fisherman. Your request was for us to pack them for you: we cannot be held accountable for anything that does not come directly from our kitchen. We have informed the fisherman of his mistake and we no longer...

Fatuma's Tower is a hidden gem in Shela Village full of history, culture, artwork, and antiques. The grounds are beautiful, built around a stunning tree. Food is amazing, plunge pool is great. Rooms have lots of local character. The staff is incredibly helpful. Massage available onsite. This was the first place I stayed in Shela and I've sent many people...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Carefully restored and modified in 1998 the historic Tower has five double bedrooms and a large yoga hall. Included behind the same compound wall is the Sand Castle with it's ground floor family apartment of three double rooms. In the surrounding gardens, the Garden Cottage has two double rooms both with bathrooms. The ten double rooms are all furnished with local antiques and fabrics in a simple yet elegant style to recreate the atmosphere of a fine Swahili house. No two rooms are the same and the cool, airy spaces retain an informal feel while several shaded balconies provide comfortable areas for avoiding too much sun and generally enjoying the peace and fresh air. The peaceful gardens have been recently " enlivened" by the refreshing sound of a fountain splashing over coral rocks into a small plunge pool. All rooms have solar powered hot water, fans and mosquito nets. ... more   less
