We intended staying two nights and stayed five, in the very spacious room with a view number 6. Christina,Paul and staff have created a wonderful ambience at Subira & we were so sad to leave. The house has been restored lovingly, tastefully & and in true Lamu style. The food, MIchael the chef produces is delicious, creative & healthy, breakfasts are... More

Subira is a very nice hotel. Immediately behind the old fortress. Staff is very nice and the breakfast is great. I had a top floor room with two terrasses, one with (limited) sea view. But the terras was great in the afternoon and evening to sit read a book and drinks. I did not try the restaurant for supper. Near... More

It's been a while but this is where we spent New Year's eve a few years ago. Couldn't have chosen a better location - the best of old and new. As organic as it gets. Loved the home-cooked meal. You feel part of everyday life. The owners Christina and Paul took special interest in everything that concerns the guests. And... More

Stayed in Subira house 2 days and nights. Very centrally located behind the Fort. Owners converted an –over- 100-year old little palace into a charming guesthouse with spacious top-floor rooms and lots of outside-space too. Nice inner-courtyard with all the classics: fruit-trees, jasmine and water-features. Staff is very friendly and, being part of the DNA of the house, able to... More

At the risk of sounding unrealistic, I have to say that this place made me feel like i transcended into a different universe. Everything about this place is beautiful. The hotel is run by an incredibly friendly elderly couple who invited me to dine with them under the stars in their court yard together with the other couple staying at... More

When staying in Lamu Old Town, don't worry about looking else where. The owners Kiki and Paul are not only amazing people as hosts but are experts in eco-friendly oases. They have received numerous rewards previously. This place is not only perfectly located above the Main Square in Lamu, but has also been manually designed and decorated whilst keeping the... More

Subira House is a hidden gem in the centre of a busy Lamu Town. Christina and Paul who runs the hotel are genuinely engaged in protecting the unique Lamu environment and culture and this is clearly noticeable in the hotel. All the staff is local and the gift shop have a good selection of craft from the local artisans. Our... More

On the amazing Kenyan island of Lamu, my girlfriend and I have had the pleasure of being guests at Subira House. Our hosts (Swedish Christina & Dutch Paul, both fluent in English and a few other languages) have transformed a few historic buildings in central Lamu into a genuine boutique accommodation, while respecting the history of the place and environment... Again we had a great time on Lamu. Besides that we love Lamu, we love this guesthouse. A beautiful house, great food and very nice hosts. Always nice to start the day there with a nice breakfast and end the day on a terrace (sundowner, massages, henna) and a nice meal in the court of the house. This time, on... More

Subira House is in the middle of Lamu town, in the midst of history, with the smell of the Indian Ocean. It's a tranquil lovely place with a soul. A real gem for a holiday as well as for a business trip
