The blind only blocks off the side facing the bed. I believe all of their rooms are set up with the same furnishing and see through bathroo. When you come out from the hostel, turn to your left and you will find a number of local eating places. It is quite safe even after midnight because the small cafe and bars on both side of the alley leading towards the Main Street is pretty busy with customers. Make sure you don't turn right when you come out from the hostel. If you haven't booked this hostel, I would recommend the Jade Garden near the Imperial palace. Check out from Trip Adviser.
Sorry for the late reply, they all have comfy double beds in them so they would suit a single person or a couple, but to be fair, it's so cheap it doesn't really matter... about £35 a night in a funky Hutong, it's good value
