Great hostel with such a lovely, comfy common area. Everything is very clean. They are constantly cleaning the restrooms. Bathroom has hot shower with good water pressure. Reception is open 24 hours and english speaking staff is friendly. They serve Western style breakfast and

I spent three total nights in Red Lantern, on either end of a two week trip in China. Not quite a hostel, not quite a guesthouse, Red Lantern somehow provides the best of both worlds: beautiful facility with helpful staff, quiet, calm, relaxing common spaces, with cheap accommoda

There are some good things about the Red Lantern House. Especially if you are traveling with others. But for my trip, it was slightly less than satisfactory. Seems fairly expensive for what is offered.

Walk down a dark and lonely hutong for the entrance. They describe "hutong" a

For S$20 a night, there's nothing I could really complain about. Hostel is in the middle of a typical Beijing "Hutong" (go figure) - great vibe that reminds me of the inn-house in those old Chinese movies. Also situated right in the middle of 3 metro stations with a galore of eat

how many days prior do we need to make the reservations ?
It depends on the season. If you're going during high season (check online for when that might be), it's advisable to book well in advance. When I went last December though (which is low season), I booked about three weeks ahead of time and it was no problem...there were still plenty of rooms available when I was staying there. They're pretty good about responding to emails, so you can try contacting them to be sure. It's a great place, hope you enjoy!

I would like a room that three adult women could share.. We are not backpackers, just middle aged tourists, and it is very difficult to find a reasonably priced hotel room for 3 adults. Do you have the sort of room I am looking for? And what is the nightly rate? Dates are 18/03 to 22/03. Thanks. Kathy

My flight will not land until after 2300 on 14/12/2014. Is a late check-in possible? Is it possible for someone to pick me up at the airport or subway at that late hour?
I would imagine they would do this, just email them and ask. We paid them to pick us up at the airport at about 8-9pm I think, I can't remember how much but it was a rate for the pick up plus a small fee to pay for the driver's parking ticket. Our plane was late but they had the flight details and knew when to be there. Enjoy China!

"They have more than one site. You can get accommodation from a single with private bathroom up to a dorm room for eight."
"the rooms upstairs are a quieter, the rooms downstairs are closer to the bathroom"
"Go for one of the courtyard rooms as the courtyards are quiet and relaxing"
