Three of us stayed here, and I booked two (2) rooms thinking that one (1) room would be too small for 3 people. But I was surprised by the size of the room: it is certainly large enough to comfortably fit three adults, as the couch can convert to a sofa bed.

TIP on HOTEL ROOM: when checking in, ask for a room with a sofa, as it is the same rate as the rooms with just an arm chair. The rooms ending in “02” are smaller arm chair rooms. As I was alone in the room, the hotel initially gave me Room 1302, which was smaller than the other room I had booked at the same rate (Rm 1307). I asked to be moved, and the staff moved me the next day to Rm 1306, which has a Queen Bed, a full-sized sofa, and was much bigger in size than Rm 1302.

LOCATION: The location is central, right beside the Times Square Mall, and a 3-5 minute walk to Hysan Place Mall and SOGO Mall. There is a Uniqlo store and a Muji store right next to the Times Square Mall. There is a tram stop on the next street, and several eating places all around the hotel (good cheap food court in Hysan Place).

TIP ON MTR: The Causeway Bay MTR Station has several exits, far apart from each other. There is an exit to the Times Square Mall, but from the train to that MTR exit is an uphill climb (difficult if you are unfit!). If you are staying at this hotel and want to avoid walking up a long inclined ramp to the exit, take the MTR exit either to Hysan Place or SOGO, then just walk to the hotel. These are easier exits!

HOTEL STAFF: The front desk / reception staff and management in this hotel are some of the most accommodating and considerate I have met, in many decades of travel. Even if this was “just” a Holiday Inn Express, rather than the brand’s more high-end hotel chains, you are treated very very well; like VIPs. Every request we made was promptly and quickly accommodated, from extra towels, to a change of room, to additional amenities.

What was particularly surprising was the action taken when I expressed displeasure at my awful breakfast experience (further described below). I was approached during breakfast by the Assistant Sales Manager Spencer Ng, who sat with us for several minutes, listened and took down notes on all our complaints about our breakfast experience. He was clearly concerned, and told us he would promptly inform management of our complaints.

Which he did, because the very next day, the Assistant Front Office Manager Alvis Chiu reached out to me, even coming up to my room to discuss the problems I had. Alvis extended a late afternoon checkout to our group, and when we checked out, he personally arranged for a cab to the airport, and ensured that we were assisted in loading luggage into the vehicle. (He even helped!)

Alvis and Spencer made us feel like very important guests, and I will remember that and always recommend this hotel to friends and family visiting Hongkong. I would also like to commend the other front desk staff who always went out of their way to assist us: Vivian (who arranged my room change), 2 Allans, Calvin, Kevin. Excellent people and a credit to the IHG brand.

BAD BREAKFAST EXPERIENCE: This was the only blight to our stay; a bad one. First, the breakfast was not the IHG breakfast which regular IHG guests are accustomed to in most countries. As this hotel does not have its own cafe, it farms out the daily breakfast of guests to a concessionaire, in this case the “Ten Million Seafood & Hotpot Restaurant”, located at the 3rd floor of the hotel.

Awful dirty place; awful breakfast. First, the area near the sushi bar (where the fresh milk for the cereals is located) had a slight sewer smell. Then for 3 of the 4 days we had breakfast there, there was no drinking water available, as the machine was “out of service”, and the wait staff rudely turned away Asians who dared to ask for water. Instead, guests were constrained to load a glass with ice, then add piping hot water, to "mix" their drinking water.

The Chinese fare was passable, but if you want continental Western fare for breakfast, go elsewhere: the hotdogs/sausages were cold and half-cooked, the coffee is terribly bitter and served with evaporated milk, and the restaurant provided the worst-tasting, cheapest fake butter/margarine for bread.

The breakfast area is very small and crowded, hence guests bump into each other trying to reach for the bad coffee, or scoop up the runny scrambled egg dish.

What made this breakfast restaurant the absolute worst I have been to, however, was the shocking rudeness of the staff (most of whom claimed not to speak any English). When I asked to heat a little food I had brought the next day in the microwave (since their Western food was frankly inedible), I was told very VERY curtly by a female supervisor: NO NO NO, accompanied by muttered angry words I did not understand. If I had been told politely it was against policy, I would have graciously understood that, but to be spoken to with such unmasked contempt was unacceptable.

Then as I was taking pictures of the breakfast fare, as I often post breakfast pictures on tripadvisor, a waitstaff speaking in Chinese rudely waved me away (on the instructions of the same angry-faced female supervisor) clearly saying in a language I did not understand that taking photos of the food was not allowed!

There were other incidents, which I have opted to discuss directly with hotel management, as their concessionaires reflect on their brand, and this one was a very poor reflection.

TIP FOR BREAKFAST (if concessionaire not replaced): Skip it.

This place is literally across time square. 10 steps and you are in Lane Crawford. Great location for shopping and night life.

They also have a great selection of hot meals, breads, salads, drinks and cereals for breakfast.

The only reason why its not a perfect 5 for us, is the hotel's outdatedness and toiletries. No actual soaps and shampoos. Just liquid soaps attached to the wall.
Thank BerlynCC

Holiday Inn Express at Casueway Bay is one of my favorite hotel when I visit Hong Kong. The hotel is located right next to Time Square and also the heart of Causeway Bay. You can find food and shopping steps away from the hotel.
The hotel has change their long time English Restaurant to a Japanese Steamboat buffet restaurant, hence the breakfast also changed from set menu to buffet. Breakfast was really so so. We only ate the breakfast for the first day.
The hotel room is dated, but decent size, the air conditional was making some noise.
The staffs are very friendly and helpful.

Stayed here for a few days on a business trip. Fuss free, easy to get around from its location. Many good eateries and shopping options within walking distance. Breakfast buffet is so-so with not much variety (but if you are on a business trip with limited time to hunt for good food, its still sufficient). Overall, service was good, rooms are clean and pretty spacious. I would book this place again for my own leisure trip.

This hotel is near to Times Square, close to the MTR, a bus station under a nearby flyover, trams, and a marshalled taxi rank outside Times Square. It is ideally placed for seeing the real Hong Kong and to get to other parts.

It is not 4 star but you are not paying 4 star prices. It is a busy place and the hotel is always busy but Causeway Bay is one of the most densely populated areas of Hong Kong

It is a skyscraper building, with excellent views - I was in one of the top floor rooms which are slightly better and dearer but the standard rooms are adequate. You have to realise that you are in Hong Kong and you have to adjust.

The breakfast is included in the price. You get a voucher and go to a self service canteen type cafe, which caters for all the various types of food. It is an experience, enjoy it.

If I went back to Hong Kong I would definitely stay there again - I stayed 10 nights.

I was helped by Alan Chan on reception when we had a problem . Good value, excellent location, helpful staff , enjoy this fascinating city
