We stayed here in August 2012 and it's a shame we didn't get to stay longer at the Phoenix Hotel, the service, our room and the breakfast was excellent! It's around the corner from Malioboro, so you're still in but out of the hustle and bustle. Spent the evenings in the bar playing pool with a few drinks and wondering...

Stayed here for 2 nights during our trip in Java and it was very nice experience. We had a small accident when we were stuck in the elevator, so if you are busy then please use stairs instead of elevator. The room we stayed in was quite old, but I believe it should look very nice on those days when...

We can't compare it with others as it's the only hotel we stayed in Yogyakart. It's conveniently located next to Tugu Monument and around 15-minute walk from Tugu Train Station/Malioboro. Nice decor, clean and neat room, and splendid swimming pool. For 15-minute walk to east in Jl. Jendral Sudirman you can find a bunch of batik shops with more variety...

We very much enjoyed our stay at the phoenix. Our suite was beautiful. We appreciated the little extras provided such as fruit bowl, array of mini dessert treats and mini bar snacks and non alcoholic drinks included for free. Since the hotel is located on a busy street it is quite noisy even in the wee hours of the morning....

We began our honeymoon in Indonesia by staying at the Phoenix Hotel for 3 nights. The hotel itself is a charming colonial style building and our room was quiet and relaxed with a balcony overlooking the pool. This was a great location to visit the surrounding sights such as Prambanan and Borobudur. The hotel's restaurant is set around an outside...

Situated along a busy road without much to see, it is a hotel you get a feeling that someone inherited a huge house but had no idea what to do with it, and so just meld all the pretty things together without much regard to harmony. It has a Dutch Colonial architecture but the local pride in the owner probably...

If you are in Jogjakarta, consider seriously to stay on this beautiful hotel. Amazing pool, decent restaurant (great breakfast, ok dinner), good location and decent rooms. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
This legenderay hotel was initially built as private estate in 1918. Through the ensuing decades, the property changed hands a number of times, until a Dutch caretaker turned it into Pensioner Hotel. The Phoenix name was deliberately chosen by the last proprietor who hoped that it would remain intact forever, believing in the ancient myth of The Phoenix, the sacred fire bird symbolizing regeneration throughout eternity. The Phoenix Hotel is elegantly situated in down town Yogyakarta, the cradle of Javanese civilization. The legendary Malioboro Street is just nearby, while the world herigate Borobudur and Prambanan temples are only an hour drive. Yogyakarta's cultural heritage and picturesque settings emit a distinctive charm that seldom fails its visitors. The 144 beautifully appointed rooms are reflecting the ambiance of bygone era wrapped in modern comfort facilities, enabling its occupant to celebrate a glorious past without losing the beauty of contemporary living. ... more   less
